4. Review of Rules and Antitrust Guidelines for the meeting [Matsushita, Ai]

The rules and Anti-trust guidelines are same as the rules of Mt.fuji plenary.

5. Document Distribution

MEI distributed following proposal documents.

CG and VR command.pdf, getcnfig.PDF, getperf.PDF, getperf_MS.PDF, Proposaed Agenda.PDF, Read.PDF, Strm_mdl.PDF, write.PDF

6. Old Business

6.1 Review open action items

6.1.1 Check if DVD-Forum MPEG 2 implementation is an open specification [Tanikawa, Pioneer]

DVD Forum does not restrict the use of MPEG 2 implementation (VOBU format) outside of DVD Forum.

But they do not accept it.

No one knows who has an Intellectual Property.

There were no clear answers from DVD Forum people yet.

6.1.2 Check if there is any critical data section in other video file formats under Windows [Henry, Microsoft]

There is no critical data (98% accuracy). Deferred to plenary.

6.1.3 Bob Griswold and Takaharu Ai will work out a flow-chart of error handling for AV recording and reading [Microsoft and Matsushita]

Bob is still writing flow-chart. Deferred to next VR SWG.

6.1.4 Check any interference between drop-recording algorithm and Content Guard implementation [Intel]

Mike of Intel responded as distributed document. Please see “CG and VR command.pdf”.

‘Drop recording’ may affect critical data.

If the ‘Drop recording’ is applied under Content Guard environment, maximum degradation is 1 ECC block per a data error.

7. Discussion items

7.1 Edit the Model and Commands for "Drop" recording [Ai, Matsushita]

Line by line review of proposal documents was done.

[Streaming model]

‘Recordable’ is more generic term than ‘Rewritable’ to cover write-once media..

During streaming recording, linear replacement is prohibited but verify or retry operation is not restricted.
[Get Configuration]

Blocking field was removed from Real-time Streaming Feature Descriptor.

Blocking shall be referenced in other appropriate Feature descriptor.
[Write (12)]

Section 11.49.1 was removed due to redundant. References to 11.49.1 were moved to Real -time Streaming model section.

If Streaming bit is set to 1, FUA is meaningless. Shall be set to 0.
[Read (12)]

If Streaming bit is set to 1, FUA is meaningless. Shall be set to 0.

Section 11.19.1 was removed.

7.2 Command for Non-contiguous area information [Henry and Dan, Microsoft]

The Unusable Area descriptor is proposed for Get Performance Command to know the location of physically unusable areas (Defective blocks registered in PDL or SDL, Zone boundaries) on the disc more easily.

Each of these three kind of unusable areas is returned independently.

Defective blocks that corresponds one SDL should be returned by one descriptor.

Following changes are applied to the proposed document.

Number of Logical Blocks field of Table 151 is changed to Reserved (Byte6-7) and Maximum Number of Descriptors (Byte8-9) that is same as Type field 00h definition.

Byte 6, 7 of CDB are changed to Reserved.

Byte 8, 9 of CDB are changed to Number of Logical Blocks.

PDL, SDL, Zone bits in Table 151 are changed to Unusable Area Type field. Exactly one kind of data shall be returned to the Host.

Unusable Area Type Field definition:

000b Zone boundary information

001b PDL information

010b SDL information

Others Reserved

Byte 0,1 and 6,7 of Table 158 are removed.

Command name of “Get Performance” was not change to “Get Streaming Information”.

MEI decided that the Today’s discussion result will be proposed Mt.Fuji 4 plenary meeting tomorrow.

8. Meeting Schedule (When and Where) []

8.1 Schedule more working groups []

Remaining issue of VR SWG is the model and command set for the Skip recording.

If skip recording proposal will be made until September Mt.Fuji, #4 VR SWG will be held after the plenary.

Temporary proposed date of #4 VR SWG is September 17, 1999 at West coast of USA.

9. Action Items

Bob Griswold and Takaharu Ai will work out a flow-chart of error handling for AV recording and reading.

9.1 Wrap up [Kohda, Pioneer]

10. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 4:30PM.
