APF provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the
power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential both
now and in generations to come.
Since 1953, APF has supported a broad range of scholarships and grants for students and
early career psychologists as well as research and program grants that use psychology to
improve people’s lives.

About the Wilhelm Wundt — William James Award
The American Psychological Foundation’s (APF) Wilhelm Wundt – William James Award
recognizes psychologists who have made distinguished contributions to the science and
profession of psychology and to the promotion of effective cooperation between Europe and
North America. This award, made possible by a gift to APF from Dr. Raymond Fowler, is
presented every two years at the European Congress of Psychology.
The Award alternates between presentation to a North American and a European
psychologist. In 2013 the award will be presented to a North American psychologist.
Eligibility Criteria
The 2013 Award will be given to a North American psychologist who is recognized
internationally as having made a substantial and original contribution to European and
North American psychology as a science or a profession, and whose contributions are
documented by international recognition which includes:
fostering collaboration, exchange or understanding among European/North
American psychology;
publications in scholarly journals;
presentations at national and
international conferences; and
a substantial contribution to European and/or American psychology through
leadership and/ or the promulgation of psychology as a science and a profession.
Award Presentation
The Wundt-James Award will be presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 2013
European Congress of Psychology in Stockholm, Sweden by the European Federation of
Psychologists Associations (EFPA) and the American Psychological Foundation (APF).
The recipient will be invited to give a special Wundt-James Lecture and/or Symposium
during the European Congress of Psychology. Travel costs to and from the Congress will not be
covered.
Nomination Requirements
Nominations should include:
A cover sheet indicating the nominee’s name and contact information and the
nominator’s name and contact information;
A letter of nomination detailing the contributions the nominee has made to European
and North American psychology;
A current CV for the nominee; and
Up to four (4) supporting letters
