COMMUNITY STUDIOS
VISUAL ARTS
Offering a wider range of programs than ever before, our visual arts studios operate from each of our three creative hubs, with workshops on every day of the week. All workshops are facilitated by a professional artsworker who focuses on developing each artist’s unique abilities in a group setting. Developing creative concepts, building technical skills and sharing work with audiences are all part of our studio-based workshop program.

DIGITAL ARTS
DADAA’s digital arts program is well established, developing skills in digital story-telling and film-making. Participants work on a project of their choice, and are guided by professional artsworkers and film-makers to develop their story, capture vision, edit content and present, publish or perform their work in a professional setting or online.
All workshops are facilitated by a professional artsworker who focuses on developing each artist’s unique abilities in a group setting. Developing creative concepts, building technical skills and sharing work with audiences are all part of our studio-based workshop program.

The program includes masterclasses with professional print-maker Lizzy Robinson to develop large-format prints. Additional community workshops will develop smaller prints. All work printed in a Public Print Day, 31 January 2018, with a steamroller outside the Fremantle Old Boys School, DADAA Fremantle
EXHIBITION OPPORTUNIITES
Our annual program of artist exhibitions at the DADAA Galleries and professional galleries in the Perth metro area give DADAA artists numerous avenues to connect with audiences and develop their capacity as professional artists.
ONLINE GALLERY AND BLOG SPACE
Via the stARTSPEAK platform, a growing number of artists have the opportunity to showcase their work and communicate with new audiences.
PARTNERSHIPS
FESTIVAL CONNECT: You Know We Belong Together Year three of our four-year partnership with Perth Festival will see DADAA co-produce You Know We Belong Together with Black Swan Theatre and Perth Festival. Artist Julia Hales takes her show to the Festival stage, in collaboration with writer Finn O’Branagain and director Clare Watson.
Bringing this well-established film festival to Western Australia for the first time, DADAA partners with AAV to show internationally acclaimed films made by film-makers with disability. This initiative is supported by Healthway and promotes disability leadership in the film industry.
TELETHON KIDS INSTITUTE: Performance and Evaluation Program In an exciting new partnership, DADAA collaborates with Circus WA to provide an avenue for young people with high-support needs to push their bodies as they learn new performance skills. A digital component complements physical activity to overcome any barriers, with performances at the Awesome International Festival in 2019. DADAA collaborates with Telethon Institute researchers to conduct a Quality of Life evaluation that will also develop and test new research methods.
SCULPTURE BY THE SEA: Tactile Tours Now in its tenth year, the DADAA–Sculpture By The Sea partnership again runs tactile tours and beach access tours for audiences with disability to access this iconic summer exhibition. ACT-BELONG-COMMIT: Artlink Children’s Program, Artist in Residence, The Other Film Festival, Audio Description We continue to partner with WA’s highly successful Act-Belong-Commit initiative that addresses mental health and wellbeing. Funding continues to support children and dance programs while, in 2018, also extending to supporting the inaugural Act-Belong-Commit Artist In Residence program, the Other Film Festival and our live Audio Description service.
CROWN RESORT AND PACKER FOUNDATION: School Holiday Program Now in year two of funding for DADAA’s School Holiday Programs, this program is aimed at building resilience in school-aged children by developing skills and a love of comedy, film and performance.
REGIONAL PROGRAMS
HARD PRESSED (GERALDTON)
Community print-making to develop big-format linocuts, with final works printed on a community print day with a steamroller. Local and travelling exhibition program tours outcomes to other regional WA communities.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
FREE STATE ARTS AND HEALTH (SOUTH AFRICA)
Now in its third year, this international collaboration sees DADAA’s arts and disability practice and IP transferred to South Africa through participatory CACD programs and artsworker exchange. The Free State Arts and Health project has held several successful on-the-ground arts projects targeting key health issues, such as HIV. The program is made possible with additional funding from the Mellon Foundation, University of the Free Sate and the Vry Festival. Broader partnerships with the South African government and Witwatersrand University will come on board during 2018.
ACCESS SERVICES
AUDIO DESCRIBED SHOWS AND TACTILE TOURS
Working across Perth’s major festival and performance venues, DADAA offer the only live Audio Description service in WA. This year, we will Audio Describe in excess of 25 performances and bring Tactile Tours to significant exhibitions, including Sculpture by the Sea.
TRAINING FOR ORGANISATIONS
Training for businesses, arts organisations and local governments, DADAA takes Disability Awareness Training, Vision Awareness Training, Digital and Touchpad Training to organisations or hosts training at our Fremantle hub: the heritage-listed Old Boys School.
RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
Ongoing evaluation consultancy focused on DAIP awareness and implementation; program and venue accessibility; participatory arts program evaluation.
CREATIVE HUBS
DADAA FREMANTLE: Now located at the Fremantle Old Boys’ School mid-year, this hub includes additional studios, performance spaces, gallery spaces, a café, cinema and partnerships with other community programs.
DADAA MIDLAND: Serving the eastern region of Perth, Midland is a vibrant hub for daily workshops in visual arts. The centre has a growing Aboriginal Arts program and is located in the NDIS Hill Trial site.
