ALFRED Adler “Man knows much more than he understands.”
Background Alfred Adler was a physician/psychotherapist born in Austria He lived from February 7, 1870-May 28, 1937 He had a psychodynamic perspective but it was far different from other philosophers
HIS THEORY Alder was known for the first major break from psychoanalysis and the formation of an independent school of psychotherapy and personality theory Alder is also known for creating the term inferiority complex: lack of worth Alder often changed his theory on personality but believed people focus on maintaining control of their lives and everyone is unique He felt everyone has an idea of their perfect self and each person is the picture and the painting In other words: Everyone can change their concept of themselves
Interesting Facts/Personal feelings He established his offices across from an a amusement park and circus in the lower class part of Vienna He influenced notable figures in subsequent schools of psychotherapy such as Rollo May, Viktor Frankl, Abraham Maslow and Albert Ellis I agree with Alder’s beliefs because I do not believe that you are born one specific way, I believe that everyone can change - Do you believe that everyone can change or that one is born a specific way?
- How does one overcome their feeling of inferiority to superiority?
