Research activities :
The basic feature of the scientific work of Jozef Šimúth is his contribution to the
development of molecular biology, gene engineering, biotechnology of
nutritional proteins, molecular apidology with a focus on the functional
genomics of nutrition and physiologically active proteins and antibiotic peptides,
especially those having a bee-based origin.
He is considered the founder of systematic research of royal jelly proteins at
genomic, proteomic and physiological levels. He found that major protein royal
jelly had the ability to self-asembly on various regular structures that honeybee
use on the procesing of nectar to honey.
The knowledge about the immunostimulatory properties of bee proteins present
in honey, royal jelly, bee pollen opens a new stage in the research of the
therapeutic effects of honeybee products and their exact definition as
biofarmaceuticals.
