BOHOL SANDUGO SONG FESTIVAL-2014 (BSSF’14)

Competition Rules and Guidelines

The competition theme and writing styles are open-ended. This being a popular song festival, experimentation and discovery is encouraged. The use of Visayan/Cebuano/Boholano dialects for the song lyrics is also encouraged.



Who May Join

  • Amateur and professional composers of any age, including minors provided that they obtain the written consent of a parent or guardian.

  • Limited only to resident and non-resident Boholano, or composers of Boholano descent who must present their birth certificate upon submission of song entry.

  • Composers who are not involved in the competition committee; the finals judges' spouses and relatives up to the fourth civil degree of consanguinity or affinity cannot join the competition.

Song Entry & Submission Rules

  • A song entry may be written in a popular or contemporary style in any form or structure, the duration of which should preferably not exceed four (4) minutes inclusive of the intro and extro.

  • Song lyrics must be in regional language, a Visayan-Cebuano or Boholano dialect. However, English terms may be used or combined if they contribute to the total charm and effect of the song. Colloquial expressions and other made-up terms are allowable as well.

  • A composition may consist of any musical arrangement, including a capella. However, instrumental compositions are not allowed.

  • A song entry must be entirely original, and must therefore not infringe on any existing copyright or any other intellectual property rights. It must not also be licensed to any publisher; has not been printed and distributed as hard copy, or circulated through the internet; and has not been previously recorded for commercial purposes. It must not have been performed live in any venue, on traditional radio and television, or internet, or pre-recorded and uploaded on the internet, or recorded on video or other format for future broadcast. Entries that violate this rule shall be automatically disqualified.

  • Song entry forms can be availed at www.bohol.gov.ph or at the BSSF Secretariat.

  • A contestant can only enter a maximum of two (2) songs, either as a sole composer or collaborator. Entries with at least one (1) writer (music or lyrics) found in violation of this two-song rule will be automatically disqualified. Only the first two entries involving the same writer shall be accepted. His/her third and succeeding entries shall be automatically disqualified.

  • The deadline for the submission of entries shall be at 11:59 pm on 25 June 2014. However, the competition organizers reserve the right to extend the deadline, the date of which shall be posted on the website.

Requirements for Submission

  • Entries shall be submitted thru courier or personal delivery to the BSSF Secretariat on or before the scheduled time and date.

  • The song entry must be placed in a brown envelope that contains the following:

a) A clearly recorded song in an audio CD.

b) Six (6) copies of the song lyrics

c) Duly accomplished song entry form attached with a copy of the birth certificate of

the composer.



  • Strictly one brown envelope with the required items per entry.


Screening of Entries

  • A Screening Committee shall audition all entries and determine the twelve (12) finalist songs.

  • The decision of the Screening Committee is final and binding on all parties concerned.

  • The titles of the 12 finalist songs, and the names of their respective composers, will be announced in local radio stations or published in the local newspaper on or before June 29, 2014.

  • The artistic and production groups of the Competition Committee shall call the composers and interpreters for broadcast or promotion performances for each of the 12 finalists.

  • Those who will make it to the Top 12 must be present in person during the rehearsals and the finals night. Otherwise, the entry may be disqualified at the sole discretion of the competition management.

Requirements for finalists

  • To qualify for the finals, the 12 finalists that will be chosen must submit either their birth certificate, or a valid passport, as proof of their being a Boholano or Boholano descent.

  • If a minor, the finalist must also submit a letter of consent from the parent or guardian.

  • Photocopies of the supporting documents must be submitted to the organizers when the 10 finalists are announced. However, the originals of these supporting documents must likewise be presented to the organizers for validating purposes.

Finals Night

  • The selected twelve (12) finalist songs shall be rendered and interpreted by the songwriter’s chosen singer/singers or by himself during the final competition.

  • The schedule for the final song competition will be on the evening of July 25, 2014 at a venue within Tagbilaran City.


Criteria for Judging
All entries shall be judged according to the following general criteria:
a. Music (the quality of melody, harmony and rhythm) 40%

b. Lyrics (the arrangement of words and ideas) 30%

c. Song interpretation (singer’s overall projection) 30%
Contest Prize (all with plaque)

Grand Prize – P40,000.00

Second Prize – P30,000.00

Third Prize – P20,000.00

Best Interpreter – P 5,000.00

Prize for each of the10 Finalists – P 7,000.00
