Welcome to Colorado, home to four 

National Parks, five National Monuments, 

one World Heritage site, seven Historic 

Railroads, 90 vineyards, more than 120 

microbreweries, 26 ski areas and resorts 

and 54 peaks over 14,000 feet high. In 

Colorado guests can experience the 

wonder of alpine meadows coated in 

wildflowers and glacier-formed lakes; 

concerts in a red-rock amphitheater 

or horseback rides on see-forever 

ranch lands; river rafting down miles of 

whitewater rapids or skiing at any of our 

world-famous ski resorts. Colorado’s rich 

state heritage is preserved though living-

history forts, narrow-gauge railroads, 

mining museums and Native American cliff 

dwellings. With Denver International Airport 

as Colorado’s main gateway and many 

regional airports providing easy access 

to all parts of the US. Colorado can fulfill

TransporTaTion

US Highway 285 travels south to Alamosa from Denver and 

Interstate 25 will take you from Fort Collins to Trinidad. 

Interstate 70 and US Highway 50 run across the entire state 

of Colorado. Local airports throughout the state provide 

commercial airline service linking with the gateway city 

of Denver. Major airline carriers are United, Frontier, US 

Airways, Northwest, Continental, Delta, Alaska Airlines, 

America West, American Airlines, ATA, Southwest and 

JetBlue. Denver is served by daily international flights on 

Lufthansa, British Airways, United, Air Canada, and Iceland 

Air (beginning May 2012).

delights, catch a show at the Denver Center for the Performing

daY Three:

Take a day trip to 



Cripple Creek

 and the captivating 



Pikes Peak Heritage Center, which 

introduces visitors to the region’s fascinating history, recreation opportunities and cultural 

attractions. Overnight in Colorado Springs. 

daY Two:

Travel south to 



Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region, 

known for its majestic beauty and abundance of attractions 

including Garden of the Gods Park, US Air Force Academy, 

Royal Gorge Route Railroad, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, 

Seven Falls and Pikes Peak Cog Railway

. Stop by the Outlets 

at Castle Rock and overnight in Colorado Springs. 

daY four:

Continue south over



 La Veta Pass

 on your journey to 



Alamosa

, home to Colorado’s newest 

national park, Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve, the Rio Grande Scenic 

Railroad and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

. Offering awe-inspiring vistas of North 

America’s tallest sand dunes, this national park is surely a treat on anyone’s itinerary. Travel 

through time on the Rio Grande over the 



Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range

. Don’t forget 

your camera! Overnight in Alamosa.

daY five:

Travel west via 



South Fork to Durango and check out the Durango & Silverton Narrow 

Gauge Railroad

 for an authentic turn-of-the-century, steam-powered, coal-fired trip through 

the scenic San Juan Mountains

 of Southwest Colorado. Rent a bike or hike along some of 

Durango’s tracks and trails. Overnight in Durango. 

daY six:

Take the morning to enjoy a rafting trip down the 



Dolores River then off to Cortez



Mesa 



Verde National Park

, located in Cortez, is a World Heritage Cultural Park and the nation’s 

best collection of ancient Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings. Overnight in Cortez or 

Mesa Verde

daY nine:

Travel east along Interstate 70 to 



Vail and 

enjoy a round of golf or a relaxing spa visit. Try 

taking your mountain bike to the top of 

Mt. Vail 

by gondola in the summertime and biking back 

to the bottom. Overnight in Vail. 

daY Ten:

Go north through Kremmling

 and over to 

Granby and Grand Lake to the west entrance 

of Rocky Mountain National Park

. Trail Ridge 

Road, the highest continuous highway in North 

America, crossing the Continental Divide, will 

take you through the park west to east. Visitors 

can enjoy sights of the mountains, foliage, and 

wildlife in Colorado’s largest national park. 

Complete your drive in 

Estes Park at the 

park’s East Entrance and enjoy an evening in 

town. Overnight in Estes Park. 

daY eleven:

Back to Denver

 for a final day of shopping

museums, attractions, relaxing spas and 

exciting nightlife. Overnight in Denver. 

daY Twelve:

Depart Denver for home.



daY eighT:

Take a trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison 



National Park and experience the cascading 

walls of this amazing canyon. Reaching over 

50 miles in length, this National Park offers 

some of the most fantastic vistas of the raging 

Gunnison River. Continue your drive to 

Grand 

Junction

, and travel over the 



Colorado 

National Monument before stopping at a local 

winery for a tasting before dinner. Overnight in 

Grand Junction. 

daY seven:

Enjoy a relaxing sunrise in the park and take 

one last driving loop around the park before 

heading off to Montrose

. Along the way 

stop in Telluride and Ridgway

 via the 

San 

Juan Skyway Scenic Byway

. Overnight in 

Montrose.

Colorado fronT range daY Trips

daY one:

There are a number of easy day trips within an hour or two of Denver, beginning with 



Estes 

Park

, an attractive resort village at the edge of 



Rocky Mountain National Park, has shops, 

restaurants and flower gardens and is ideally suited for motorcoach tours with drop-off stations 

and parking in town. Visitors can travel on Trail Ridge Road through the national park along 

the highest continuous highway in the nation. Wildlife viewing, hiking trails, fishing, mountain 

lakes, meadows of wildflowers, horseback riding and camping are just some of the attractions. 

Stanley Hotel

, a 1909 historic hotel that inspired Stephen King to write “The Shining,” sits in a 

dramatic location at the base of the mountains in Estes Park. 

daY Two:

Georgetown and Idaho Springs

 are historic silver-and-gold-mining towns with many Victorian 

buildings and Old West main streets lined with antique stores, shops and restaurants. Visitors 

can ride the Georgetown Loop Narrow Gauge Railroad

, featuring steam locomotives that 

climb 600 feet in elevation in just four miles by looping over a 100-foot/35-meter-high bridge. 



Phoenix Gold Mine

 offers tours of an historic operating gold mine, the oldest continuously 

operated hard-rock mine in Colorado. Nearby 

Clear Creek

 offers all levels of rafting. Visitors 

can ascend Mount Evans

 as they ride along North America’s highest paved auto road which 

snakes its way to the summit 14,260 feet above sea level. 

daY Three:

Buffalo Bill’s Museum & Grave on Lookout Mountain

 traces the life of the West’s most 

famous frontier scout and showman with historic photos, paintings, mementos, posters and 

artifacts from the Wild West Show. In 



Golden, the Colorado Railroad Museum

 displays more 

than 50 narrow-gauge cars and locomotives, as well as other railroading memorabilia, including 

a gigantic model. 



Coors

 offers free tours of the world’s largest single-site brewery with free 

samples of a variety of Coors products at the end of the tour. 

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one 

of the world’s greatest outdoor concert venues. Seventy-million-year-old red-rock cliffs have 

been transformed into an acoustically perfect amphitheatre seating 9,500. During the day, the 

park offers hiking trails and panoramic views of the rocks and downtown Denver. On your way 

to Red Rocks stop by 

Dinosaur Ridge where fossilized dinosaur tracks are exhibited in the 

stone.

Located 35 minutes from Denver, 



Boulder is a delightful college town located at the base of 

the Flatirons

, a series of vivid red rock formations at the foot of the 

Rocky Mountains

. The 


town has a four-block-long pedestrian area, the 

Pearl Street Mall, that is lined with shops, 

outdoor cafes, bookstores, brewpubs and flower gardens. 



Celestial Seasonings, the largest 

herbal tea manufacturer in the US, produces over a billion tea bags a year and offers free 

tours and tastings to visitors. 

Poudre Canyon/Red Feather Lakes

 is a narrow rock canyon, 

named in 1836 by a group of French mountain men. The area offers scenic views and hiking 

trails.


With 26 ski areas and resorts to choose from and outdoor activities including skiing, 

snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, snowmobiling and many more non-outdoor options, 

including relaxing at the spa, shopping, visiting museums, art galleries, and theatres, 

Colorado offers its visitors world-class winter fun for all ages. Colorado boasts short, well-

organized queues served by more than 300 ski lifts; 2,000 long, playful trails; hundreds of 

runs groomed daily; snowboard parks, half pipes, jumps, bumps and lessons; back bowls, 

tree skiing, heli-skiing, snow-cat skiing; night skiing; multi-resort ski passes and easy access 

to the mountains via plane, car, or shuttle bus.
