NOVOSIBIRSK STATE UNIVERSITY IN THE LIGHT OF BIBLIOMETRICS (BY the example of the GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS DEPARTMENT)
MAZOV Nikolay A. – Cand. Sci. (Technical), Head of Information analysis center, Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, SB RAS, Novosibirsk, Russia. E-mail: MazovNA@ipgg.sbras.ru

GUREYEV Vadim N. – researcher, Information analysis center, Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, SB RAS, Novosibirsk, Russia. E-mail: GureyevVN@ipgg.sbras.ru
Abstract. The authors analyze publications of Geology and geophysics department of Novosibirsk State University and reveal trends in the development of science and education at the university. NSU shows the fastest growth in the number of publications that enabled it to improve performance in international university rankings. Good results can be explained by significant share of university staff which simultaneously works at scientific organizations of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and since 2010 began to indicate NSU in paper affiliation. The most part of publications indexed in international bibliometric databases is published in Russian serials translated into English. However, fewer part of papers published in foreign international serials are more highly cited. NSU shows more active international collaboration in comparison with other Russian organizations in the field of Earth sciences. Furthermore, lists of graduates are studied in order to peruse performance of educational component in NSU. It was shown that more than half of graduates continue scientific work, and approximately 21 per cent defend Ph.D. theses in the nearest five years after graduation.

Philosophy of science and education
TO EMPTY THE SEA WITH A THIMBLE: READERLY EXPLOITS, DISCOVERIES AND LOSSES

NOWAK Piotr – PhD (dr hab.), Professor, University of Bialystok, Department of Moral Philosophy, “Kronos” philosophical quarterly deputy editor in chief. Bialystok, Poland. E-mail: nowakub@gmail.com.
Abstract. From the late forties of 20th century and until 1989, the year which many of my readers in Poland will associate with the end of censure, publishing houses were highly cautious and selective in their production of outstanding works of literature, philosophy and other scholarly works. It appears that we are still trying to compensate for these years of communist dry spell. The avalanche of attention-worthy books keeps growing, bursting into our already well-stocked bookshelves, in direct proportion, it seems, to the growing crisis of literacy and rising inflation of education. Still, to purchase books is not quite the same as to read them. Therefore we may divide contemporary society into two categories based on people’s attitude to books. On the one hand, there will be the minority of those who read ceaselessly, even obsessively; on the other – those who never touch books unless planning to make a purchase. This essay examines the consequences of non-reading for culture. The author investigates the phenomenon of non-reading in its broadest sense, discussing different attitudes to this problem as well as diverse varieties of non-reading.

MAMARDASHVILI: SPEECH AS AN EVENT OF THOUGHT
RYNDIN Dmitry G. - Postgraduate in philosophy, Russian State University for the Humanities, science editor, Merab Mamardashvili's Fund. E-mail: witel@bk.ru.
Annotation: The author deals with the philosophy of M.K. Mamardashvili from the perspective of one of its central concepts, namely the concept of "event". The article presents an attempt to review the features of style of Mamardashvili’s philosophical speech with regards to the correspondence of the form and content: philosophical speech as a speech about the event should itself be event-al. The following L.S. Vygotsky’s phrase acts as a guiding thread: the thought is not expressed in speech, it happens in it. The analysis is largely based on Vygotsky’s concept of inner speech and ideas of philosophical text as "inner speech as an open text" by V.S. Bibler. The article briefly describes how Mamardashvili shows the expressed idea through the very form of his speech. Philosophy, therefore, presents itself as an extremely honest thinking, where the form must correspond to content. Mamardashvili not only highlights the problem of event, but it is also an event to us.
