Formula, Ionic and Net Ionic Equations Worksheet (identifying precipitate in double replacement rxns)

Write the reactions as directed. Be sure to include charges on ions. Include (s) beside a precipitate and underline any molecular products.



  1. Mix aqueous potassium chromate with aqueous barium nitrate.

Formula equation – K2CrO4 (aq) +Ba(NO3)2 (aq) → 2KNO3 (aq)+ BaCrO4 (s)

Ionic equation – 2K+ + CrO4-2 + Ba+ + 2NO3- → 2K+ + 2NO3- +BaCrO4(s)

Net Ionic equation – CrO4-2 + Ba+ → BaCrO4(s)


  1. Aqueous potassium chloride is added to aqueous silver nitrate.

Formula equation – KCl(aq) + AgNO3 (aq) → KNO3(aq) + AgCl(s)

Ionic equation – K+ + Cl- + Ag+ + NO3- → K+ + NO3- +AgCl(s)

Net Ionic equation – Cl- + Ag+ → AgCl(s)


  1. Aqueous potassium hydroxide is mixed with aqueous iron (III) nitrate.

Formula equation – 3KOH(aq) + Fe(NO3)3 → 3KNO3 + Fe(OH)3 (s)

Ionic equation – 3K+ + 3OH- + Fe+3 + 3NO3- → 3K+ + 3NO3- + Fe(OH)3(s)

Net Ionic equation – 3OH- + Fe+3 → Fe(OH)3(s)



  1. Aqueous solutions of lithium sulfide and nickel (II) nitrate are mixed.

Formula equation – Li2S(aq) + Ni(NO3)2(aq) → 2LiNO3(aq) + NiS(s)

Ionic equation – 2Li+ + S-2 + Ni+2 + 2NO3- → 2Li+ + 2NO3 +NiS(s)

Net Ionic equation – Ni+2 + S-2 → NiS(s)


  1. Barium chloride and sodium sulfate solutions are mixed.

Formula equation – BaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4(aq) → BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl(aq)

Ionic equation – Ba+2 + 2Cl- + 2Na+ + SO4-2 → BaSO4(s) + 2Na+ + 2Cl-

Net Ionic equation – Ba+2 + SO4-2 → BaSO4(s)
