This album had been found by Edward Bayntun-Coward (matr. 1985), proprietor of George
Bayntun, an antiquarian booksellers. Its earlier provenance is therefore unknown. It was
presented by him to the Archives in February 2004 as Accession No. 498, and catalogued

UC:P211/P1/1 c.1869–1873
Photograph album of Arthur Finch Charrington. The owner’s name is not given in the
book, but his initials ‘A. F. C.’ are inscribed on the front cover, and Charrington is the only
undergraduate at University College from this time whose initials fit. Charrington matriculated
at University in 1869. He got a Third in History in 1873. According to Alumni Oxonienses,
Charrington took his BA in 1873 and his MA in 1887, and joined the Inner Temple in 1874.
Nothing is known about his later life, but a note in the Admissions Register says that he died
on 1 May 1922.
