GIANT MINING ENTERPRISES OF THE WORLD

2. Industry trends and prospects

Mining industries in developing countries continue to grow, accounting for more than half of the top 40 companies. In 2014, South Africa's independent miners were not included in the Top 40 list. This would have been unthinkable 10 years ago: then the list included 5 companies from South Africa. Enterprises from emerging economies make up more than half of the top 40 companies. According to PWC forecasts , this figure will continue to grow. After consolidation, the companies themselves will grow. These enterprises have their own needs and management strategies, their own types of financing, and sometimes unique access to deposits. Therefore, it is extremely important to consider these companies when assessing the future development of the industry.

3. Analytics for mining engineering.

  1. MAIN MARKET DEVELOPMENT TRENDS.

The largest exporters of mining equipment are China, the USA and Germany. Over the past 5 years, exports from China (23%), the USA (25%) and Sweden (16%) have grown at the highest rates.
Many medium-sized developing economies in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America rely heavily on mineral extraction. However, these countries do not have the ability to produce advanced machinery and equipment and, therefore, mainly specialize in the production of simple equipment and components. Western European countries, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan do not have large mineral reserves, however, they are the main suppliers of complex mining equipment on the world market. Australia, Canada, South Africa and the USA are active in mining activities and also provide this sector with their own engineering products. The mining industry of Brazil, China, and Russia is developing even more actively, but the quality characteristics of the equipment are inferior to analogues in Western countries.

  1. TYPES AND CATEGORIES OF EQUIPMENT.

Mining equipment can be roughly divided into six main categories:
1) crushing, grinding, screening equipment. These types of equipment are actively used in almost all surface and underground mining operations to prepare coal, ores and minerals for further processing. This category includes crushing machines, crushers, grinding machines, vibrating screens, combination devices.
2) equipment for underground work. Underground mining equipment is used for various purposes in underground mining. Included in this category are drilling rigs, pipe cutters, auger rigs, tanks, loading fixtures, downhole continuous delivery equipment, and longwall fixtures.
3) drilling devices and safety glasses. Drilling devices and safety glasses are widely used in drilling. This category includes rotary and punching machines, hydraulic drilling rigs, core drilling rigs, and hammer drills. Drilling rigs usually fall into this category as well.
4) equipment for mineral processing. These machines prepare extracted minerals for further processing, such as smelting. This category includes feeders, sorting machines, separators, dryers, concentrators and flotation equipment.
5) equipment for open pits. This category includes cranes, excavators, which are used in various mining operations. This also includes various types of trucks, which are also actively used in the construction sector. In fact, 90% of the machines listed in this category are intended for the construction industry.
6) Spare parts and components. This category includes drill bits, crushing plates, protectors, breakers, pumps, filters and more.

  1. PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES.

One of the pressing problems for the development of the mining industry (including in Uzbekistan), which is dominated by open-pit mining, is expanding the product line of vehicles, mining and mining-transport quarry equipment, increasing their productivity, quality and reliability.
