The role of the Data Protection Authority (
Datenschutzbehörde
– DSB) is to safeguard data
protection in accordance with the regulations of the Data Protection Act 2000
(
Datenschutzgesetz
2000). It shares this role with the Data Protection Council. The Date
Protection Authority has the power to make rulings on matters of data protection, and rules
on all requests for information. Registration of data processings are done electronically to
the Data Processing Registry.

Secure Information Technology Centre (
A-SIT
)
Founded in May 1999 by the Ministry of Finance, the Austrian National Bank and the
technical University of Graz, the A-SIT is an independent non-profit association tasked with
the development of expertise in the area of technical information security in order to serve
authorities, the economy and citizens. Specific issues addressed include the introduction of
the Citizen’s Card (
Bürgerkarte
), the evaluation of cryptographic methods and
eGovernment security aspects.
