How many languages?

  • divide into groups of four of five and find out how many languages you know, then appoint a spokesperson.

  • One group after another will each tell the teacher how many languages your group knows and the teacher will write them on the board.

  • We will build up a list on the board of all the languages we know in the class.

  • Note that regular study is essential, languages need constant study, and even a brief holt in your studies will set you back a lot longer than the break.



Meeting and Greeting



First Character

  • Look at the list on the (next) screen of Hindi characters and their English sounds.

  • Pick one that matches the first sound in your name. For instance for ‘Peter’ I would pick ‘pa’

  • Try and write the character out, we will show how to write some on the board and circulate and help you write your character.





Dialogue 1a

  • Listening: the teacher will act out the first dialogue 1a and lead students through speaking the dialogue as a group.

  • Practice: try out the dialogue as groups of three in the class.

  • Presentation: the teacher will call on some of the groups to present their version of the dialogue.
