The other day Stepanov went on a two-day tour of Oxford and Cambridge. He had long been looking forward to seeing the two most famous seats of learning in Great Britain. And now, as he walked through the streets of the ancient university towns, through the quadrangles and gardens fascinated by the beauty of the narrow streets winding between colleges, he seemed to be living in history.
