1Kingdom Dominion
Introduction
The born-again believer is destined to reign on the earth through King Jesus and the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God supercedes and has dominion over the kingdoms of this world (Revelation 11:15). Jesus shall reign as King forever. This paper examines the believer’s role of reigning in the kingdom of God or kingdom dominion. As the reigning King, Jesus Christ delegates authority to His subjects as His ambassadors on the earth. As an ambassador of Jesus Christ, you are to obey the King and speak His word. More specifically, you are to exercise His authority to take dominion. The rest of the paper will discuss the context of kingdom dominion and explain how the believer takes dominion in this life.
To understand kingdom dominion, it is helpful to consider the related concepts of authority and dominion. Authority is the legal right to rule. Dominion is actually ruling. Dominion is also the end result of exercising authority. In the kingdom of God, dominion refers to dominion of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit grooms sons to operate in kingdom dominion.

Romans 8:14 (New American Standard Bible)

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
God’s Dominion
In the beginning, God created heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1), which gave Him authority and dominion over both heaven and earth. He currently has authority and dominion over all the earth, all nations and all people.

Psalm 47:2, 8 (New American Standard Bible)

2 For the LORD Most High is to be feared, a great King over all the earth.

8 God reigns over the nations, God sits on His holy throne.
Psalm 103:19 (New American Standard Bible)

The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all.
Daniel 4:17 (New American Standard Bible)

17 "This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers and the decision is a command of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes and sets over it the lowliest of men."
Delegation of Authority to Man and His Response
In the Garden of Eden, God delegated authority over the earth to His people and told them to take dominion over the earth.

Genesis 1:28 (New King James Version)

28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Man’s disobedience towards God resulted from the emergence of man and his thinking in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were told by God not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but they gave way to the devil’s temptation to eat the forbidden fruit. Disobedience to God resulted in sin and the fall of man. When Adam and Eve sinned against God through disobedience, the devil usurped man’s authority. Man became subject to the dominion of sin (Romans 6:14) and darkness (Colossians 1:13). Man served sin in the flesh and made decisions in darkness.
Even after the fall of man, God continued to deal with man concerning the issue of authority. God introduced covenants to give Him legal access to operate on the earth. God implemented covenants with Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, etc. God provided blood sacrifices to cover sin so that His people could be counted as being righteous and in right standing with God (Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6). Through covenant-relationships, God’s people could operate in a measure of His delegated authority.
The World’s Violent Rejection of God’s Dominion: If God rules over all the earth, why do people rebel against His authority? King David knew the answer to this important question. He said people were rebelling against the reign of the Lord’s anointed king.

Psalm 2:1-9 (New American Standard Bible)

1 Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,

3 "Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!"

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them.

5 Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying,

6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain."

7 "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You.

8 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession.

9 'You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall shatter them like earthenware.'"

Regardless of what men attempt to do, the Lord’s anointed king, Jesus, reigns.

The rumblings and the things seen in the natural and spiritual realms reflect the enemy’s gathering his forces against God’s people. God’s people lack and have need because King Jesus is not lifted up by His people. Those without knowledge will perish, but those who know the Lord will stand, and live, and proclaim His goodness. Lift Jesus up and operate in faith for this is how you receive from the Lord.
Let your heart not be troubled by those things that you see with the naked eye. But move in faith, seeing what the Lord is doing. Let those things which are spiritual become more real to you than those things in the physical world.
The Religious System’s Rejection of Christ’s Headship: Men’s ideas control the religious system rather than the word of God. Man is head of that system rather than Jesus Christ. The religious system gets people ready to go to heaven without preparing them for a victorious and fulfilling life on the earth. The religious system substitutes rituals for personal relationships with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. For example, the ritual of baptism symbolizes a commitment to living a crucified life, which reflects denying yourself, taking up your cross and following Jesus (Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23). However, the religious system places more emphasis on baptism than living a crucified life. Undue emphasis on rituals keeps people from experiencing the power of God which flows from a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit.
The religious system does not promote free and open access to God through personal relationships. Instead, the religious system tries to maintain its relevance by promoting itself as the sole source of God’s wisdom and knowledge. It tries to serve as a go-between on the basis that either God or man is unable or unwilling to communicate directly. If the religious system can develop an artificial wedge separating God and man, there appears to be a greater need for the religious system to fill the supposed void. To help protect its self-appointed position as a go-between, the religious system insists on using common and repetitive prayers, which limit the free exchange of ideas between God and man. But Jesus has already provided for reconciliation between God and man, and He is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). Faith-filled prayers which flow out of a free spirit and a strong relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are more effective than common prayers taken off a shelf.
Religious people may love Jesus, but their minds have not been renewed to the word of God by the Holy Spirit so they are still carnally minded. Carnal people seek their own ways, not recognizing Jesus as head of His body, which is the church.

Philippians 2:21 (New American Standard Bible)

For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.
The religious system uses rules and regulations to achieve an appearance of godliness among carnal and self-centered people.

2 Timothy 3:5 (New American Standard Bible)

[They are] holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
The religious system is not in alignment with the Father’s will. People in the religious system are not ruling. They accept less than the abundant life.
Whom the Son has set free is free indeed - free to give and free to receive (John 8:36). Both giving and receiving are important. The biggest spiritual deception occurs as people think they are following the voice of God but truly they are following man. Also, if the word is not preached with the Spirit’s anointing, the people are not clean. They are tainted by the world, and their actions are tainted by the world. The world hoards up, but the Spirit freely gives.
There are many dry places in the religious system. Even in these dry places, the people have been praying for the rain of the Spirit to fall on them. These people must first move from the carnal realm to the spiritual realm in order to continually experience God’s presence and power.
Jesus Christ is King
Jesus came to fully restore authority over the earth to God’s people. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, He declared that all authority in heaven and earth had been given unto Him, which makes Him the King.

Matthew 28:18 (New American Standard Bible)

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Jesus brought the fullness of God’s authority to His people (Ephesians 2:2-3). He has given authority over the earth back to God’s people. In the parable of the talents, the Lord said He would make faithful servants rulers over many things (Matthew 25:21, 23).

The Holy Spirit has been sent to the earth as the delegate of the King. The Holy Spirit takes the things that belong in the kingdom of God and shows them to you.

John 16:15 (New American Standard Bible)

All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He [the Spirit] takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
1 Corinthians 2:10 (New American Standard Bible)

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

You must be led by the Spirit of God in order to operate in kingdom dominion. The following sections address how believers can rule in this life and therefore operate in kingdom dominion.

Submit to the Heavenly Father’s Will: Jesus came to do the Father’s will (John 6:38-39). He spoke only what He heard from the Father (John 8:26-28) and did only what He saw the Father do (John 5:19). When Jesus came on the scene, he brought back to the earth the will of the Father, and in the Garden of Gethsemane he submitted to the Father’s will.
Kingdom dominion is in perfect alignment with the Father’s will. Kingdom dominion reaches into the vast expanses of the supernatural, bringing the will of the Father to earth.

Matthew 6:33 (New American Standard Bible)

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Colossians 3:1 (New American Standard Bible)

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Embrace Jesus’ Government: When Jesus ascended on high he gave governmental gifts to his church.

Ephesians 4:11 (New American Standard Bible)

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers.

The apostle first brings the authority and then the prophet comes in with the direction. The prophet cannot override the apostle. Those two have been missing in the body of Christ. The body has had neither authority nor direction. The same thing has happened in the body of Christ that happened in the Garden of Eden - the emergence of man and his thinking. Establishing apostolic authority and bringing the prophetic voice prepares the field for harvest.

The Lord’s government is continually increasing. The increase of His government will never end.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (New American Standard Bible)

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

History has shown repeatedly that the governments of men may increase for a while, but eventually their governments have diminished. The Lord’s government will never diminish. It gets stronger and stronger every day.

Bring Heaven’s Eternal Purposes to Earth through Prayer: The Lord said that His church shall be built upon the rock (Matthew 16:18) and that His house shall be a house of prayer (Matthew 21:13; Mark 11:17; Luke 19:46). All those who seek the Lord will find that He is there, ever present and all knowing. As you humble yourself before the Lord and pray, the petitions you request will be granted to you (2 Chronicles 7:14). The fervent prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much, producing an overflowing (James 5:16). The anointing and authority bring down the strongholds and the works of the devil.
Intercession is the manifestation of Jesus being head. If He is head of the body, there will be prayers going up. Jesus ever lives to intercede (Hebrews 7:25). Without prayer, the church will not increase itself. Intercession, which comes straight out of the love of God, pours out His love on the body.
Peter and John healed the lame man outside the temple (Acts 3:1-8), but the healing was not accepted by leaders of the religious system. Peter and John were forbidden to teach about Jesus (Acts 4:18). After being threatened by the leaders of the religious system, Peter and John returned to the other disciples and reported what happened. Then the disciples acknowledged that God was the creator of heaven and earth, giving Him authority and dominion over both heaven and earth (Acts 4:24). The disciples also quoted from Psalm 2 that unbelievers would reject the reign of the Lord and His anointed King.

Acts 4:25-26 (New American Standard Bible)

25 who by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David Your servant, said, 'WHY DID THE GENTILES RAGE, AND THE PEOPLES DEVISE FUTILE THINGS?

26 'THE KINGS OF THE EARTH TOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHERED TOGETHER AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS CHRIST.'
Recognizing that the real battle is against dominion of the Lord and His anointed King, the disciples asked to be put into this battle.

Acts 4:29-30 (New American Standard Bible)

29 "And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence,

30 while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus."

Boldly speaking the words of the King clearly separates His disciples from the rest of the world who rejected His reign. The prayer was pleasing to the Lord; because He granted their request and shook the building where they were gathered (Acts 4:31).

Reign in Life as Ambassadors for King Jesus: You reign in life by Christ Jesus (Romans 5:17). You overcome the works of the devil by the blood of Jesus (Revelation 12:11) and by His powerful name.

Philippians 2:9-11 (New American Standard Bible)

9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Tarry in the Lord’s presence and you will know the truth of every matter, big and small, for His Spirit will tell you all. Glory not that the demons are subject to you, but glory that you know Jesus Christ. Have faith for only with faith can you please Him. Move in faith, live in faith and speak in faith and the Lord will cause your enemies to flee before your very eyes. It is His will that none should perish but come to the knowledge of His saving grace that they might look upon His face.
Conclusions
The gospel of kingdom dominion is important, because this is the gospel that must be preached in all the earth before the end can come (Matthew 24:14). With the gospel of the kingdom comes the right to represent King Jesus in the earth as His ambassador. While the King is in heaven, seated on the right hand of God, you are to obey the King and speak only what the King would say. Remember that you can do nothing without the King (John 15:5). The King has designated His servants to do His will. As shown in the Garden of Eden, the Lord’s will is for His people to have dominion over the earth.
Prayer places you in the Father’s will. The will of the Father is directly related to kingdom dominion. In other words, kingdom dominion is in perfect alignment with the will of the Father. Seek the things that are above through the Holy Spirit and bring the Father’s will to earth. By bringing the Father’s will in heaven to earth, you produce kingdom dominion.
