ANNUAL REPORT
Accomplishments:


  • Food Bank

    • Purchase of software and equipment to fully automate all of the client in-take and visit records for Food Pantry.

    • 1082 volunteer hours spent interviewing clients and entering client profile’s into the new automated system.

    • Implementation of the Food Pantry Intake Program was made possible by funds received from the John F. Nagel Foundation.

  • Food Pantry

    • 63,316 individuals served in 2013

    • 18,911 food baskets distributed in 2013

    • 974,153 pounds of food distributed in 2013

    • 2073 Holiday baskets distributed in 2013

    • 63,922 individuals served in 2012

    • 19,576 food baskets distributed in 2012

    • 1,100 holiday baskets distributed in 2012

  • Backpack Program

    • 12,353 food packs serving 420 children weekly provided in the 2012-2013 school year.

    • 9,636 food packs serving 340 children weekly provided in the 2011-2012 school year.

Demographics:



  • Food Pantry

    • Currently serving 21 cities in the Treasure Valley area with 76% of the clients residing in Boise and Meridian.

    • 85% of clients fall into very low to low income brackets.

    • 37% of those benefiting from the food pantry services are under the age of 18, 49% between the ages of 18 and 59, 14% are 60 or older.

    • 21% of clients are Hispanic.

  • Backpack Program

  • Currently serving 42 schools out of the 50 schools within the Meridian School District and the Meridian Head Start.

  • 1% of children receiving food packs are pre-school age (Head Start), 65% elementary school age, 28% middle school age, 6% high school age.

  • 40% of the food packs provided go to 8 schools in the Meridian School District identified as Title 1 schools.

  • 2014 Operating Budget (Forecast):

Food Pantry– $205,000

Backpack Program - $60,000

Project Kids - $20,000


  • 2013 Operating Budget:

Food Bank – $165,000

Backpack Program - $52,000



  • 2012 Operating Budget:

Food Bank – $159,609

Backpack Program – $35,000



  • 75% of monetary resources go toward food purchases.

Donations:



  • 77% of all monetary donations come from individuals and local organizations, 11% from the City of Meridian (Community Development Block Grant), and 12% from corporations and foundations.

  • 70% of all food distributed comes from food drives, grocery stores, community gardens and local farmers – 686,056 pounds of food donated in 2013.

Services:



  • Food pantry services available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday each week. Individuals and families within Treasure Valley are permitted two visits per month.

  • School backpack program delivers food packs weekly to children within the Meridian School District and Meridian Head Start.

  • Project Kids provides assistance to children and teens in the Meridian School District with educational related expenses.

Organization:



  • Founded in 1996, received 501(c)(3) designation in 2006.

  • All volunteer organization. No paid positions. Over 100 volunteers conduct day-to-day operations for both the Food Pantry and School Backpack Program.

  • Addition of Project Kids to the Food Bank as of January 1, 2014.

  • 13 member Board of Directors.

  • 3 person management team directing daily operations.

  • Managerial oversight provided by executive director.
