Dear students and parents:
Over the course of this year, the fourth and fifth grade students of William F. Halloran School No. 22 will be
participating in a community service project with an impressive goal: to rid the City of Elizabeth of at least
360 instances of graffiti. That is two pieces of graffiti for every day students spend in school! The Martin
Luther King Day of Service, celebrated on January 19, 2009, will mark the half-way point for this project.
Each month, students in two classes are being asked to:
•
Locate at least two instances of graffiti near their neighborhoods
•
Record these instances and return them to Mr. Ojeda; these will then be passed on to city officials
who have pledged to remove the graffiti as soon as possible
Students are reminded to specifically note the address of each instance of graffiti. Examples include:
•
No Parking sign in front of 100 Westfield Avenue
•
Fence around Carter’s Market at 5555 Main Street
•
Crosswalk sign at the corner of Murray Street and Clover Street
To ensure children’s safety, parents should accompany them while they record their information. An
instructional video with more information is posted on our class website at http://www.annikeris.com. Please
feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. This project will be a great opportunity for all of us
to make our city more beautiful!
Respectfully,
Mr. Michael Ojeda
