the scale of architecture is already well rehearsed, yet computational urbanism is
still largely untheorized, with only a few examples of built projects. This lack of
concrete, grounded examples of evolutionary urbanism has been a challenge as
well as an opportunity and a central motivation for this research initiative. It has
involved a quest which is far from new, but one which may provide a vital set of
correspondences, conduits for the transfer of knowledge, and areas for further
investigation into this fertile arena for years to come.
This book is less about teaching than it is about learning; less about
dissemination than it is about discovery; less about answers than it is about
questions. Rather than confirming teleological solutions, new problems have been
outlined. “Time,” as the saying goes, “will tell.”
