Product Guide Specification

Specifier Notes: This product guide specification is written according to the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) 3-Part Format.


The section must be carefully reviewed and edited by the Architect to meet the requirements of the project and local building code. Coordinate this section with other specification sections and the Drawings. Delete all “Specifier Notes” when editing this section.
Section numbers and titles are from MasterFormat 1995 Edition, with numbers and titles from MasterFormat 2004 Edition in parentheses. Delete version not required.

SECTION 02791 (32 18 16.13)
INTERLOCKING VULCANIZED PLAYGROUND TILE SYSTEM

Specifier Notes: This section covers Rubberecycles “Aveer” interlocking, vulcanized TPE, playground tile system. Consult Rubberecycle for assistance in editing this section for the specific application.


PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Rubber, interlocking, playground tile system

1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit listed submittals in accordance with conditions of the contract and Division 1 submittal procedures section.
B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data, and installation instructions.
C. Verification Samples: Submit manufacturer's standard verification samples of at least 12 inches by 12 inches.
D. Test Reports: Submit test reports from qualified independent testing agency indicating results of the following tests:

1. Impact Attenuation: ASTM F 1292.

2. Critical Radiant Flux: ASTM E 648
E. Certificate of Compliance: Submit manufacturer's certificate of product compliance.

F. Certificate of qualifications of installer: Submit copy of manufacturer issued installation certification

G. Maintenance Instructions: Submit manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
H. Warranty: Submit manufacturer's standard warranty.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer's Qualifications:

1. Certified by manufacturer for installation of playground safety surfacing tiles.

2. Approved by manufacturer.


1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers.
B. Storage and Protection:

1. Store materials protected from exposure to environmental conditions.

2. Playground Tile System

a. Store tile system in a dry area

b. Protect tiles from direct sunlight before installation.

3. Adhesive: Store adhesive in a dry area at a minimum temperature of 50 degrees F (10 degrees C).


C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and installation to prevent damage.
1.7 Project/Site Conditions

B. Environmental Requirements: Install Playground tile system when outdoor temperature is a minimum of 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) and a maximum of 90 F (32 degrees C) for a minimum of 24 hours before during and after installation. Do not install during rainy conditions.



1.8 WARRANTY
A. Project Warranty: Refer to conditions of the contract for project warranty provisions.
B. Materials and Workmanship: Playground tile system shall be warranted for defects in materials and workmanship for 10 years from date of completed installation.
C. Performance: Playground tile system shall be warranted to meet drop height performance requirements of ASTM F 1292 for 10 years from date of completed installation.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 Proprietary Products/Systems
A. Tiles: “Aveer” Advantage
1. Description: Vulcanized, TPE, interlocking, playground tile system

3. Compliance: Meet and exceed CPSC guidelines for impact attenuation.

4. Material: Vulcanized TPE

5. Tile Locking: U-Channel perimeter configuration to lock tiles together

6. Top Edges: 1/16 inch beveled radius

7. Bottom: Vulcanized TPE, Reverse Prisim configuration

8. Top Layer: Virgin vulcanized TPE, textured

9. Size: 24”X 24” Nominal.

10. Thickness:

a. Critical Fall Height up to 8 Feet:

Total system thickness: 3.0”

Specifier Notes: Specify minimum weight of each tile component

2.3 ACCESSORIES

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify that Substrate conditions are suitable for installation of playground tile system. Do not proceed with installation until unsuitable conditions are corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION


  1. Prepare subsurface in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations.

Specifier Notes: Include the following paragraph when a concrete subsurface will be used.

B. Concrete Subsurface:

1. Concrete subsurface shall be as specified in Section 03300 (03 30 00).

2. Apply light broom finish.

3. Ensure concrete is sound with no loose material or cracks over 1/8 inch wide.


Specifier Notes: Include the following paragraph when an asphalt subsurface will be used.


C. Asphalt Subsurface:

1. Asphalt subsurface shall be as specified in Section 02_______ (32 ___ ___ ).

2. Ensure asphalt is sound with no loose material or cracks over 1/8 inch wide.

3. Variations in Elevation: Repair variations in elevation of completed subsurface greater than plus or minus 1/4 inch over 10 feet in any direction.




3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install playground tile system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Ensure subsurface and playground tiles are dry and clean.
C. Layout playground tile surface in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
D. Apply adhesive in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
E. Installation to be completed by installers that are trained and approved by manufacturer.


3.4 POST INSTALLATION QUALITY CONTROL
A. Post Installation Test: ASTM F1292 Field Test Method

1. Perform impact attenuation testing according to ASTM F1292 field test method in presence of Owner’s representative within 30 days of installation.

a. Confirm Impact Attenuation Performance of Playground Tile System:

1) g-max Score: Less than 150

2) Head Injury Criteria (HIC) Score: Less than 800

2. Operator Qualifications:

a. Trained in the proper operation of test equipment by competent agency.

3. Determine compliance with ASTM F 1292, unless otherwise specified in this section.


3.5 CLEANING
A. Remove adhesive spills from playground safety surfacing tiles in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Clean tiles in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3.6 PROTECTION
A. Protect playground safety surfacing tiles from foot traffic for a minimum of 12 hours after installation.
B. Protect completed tiles from damage during construction.
