Other matters List of experts nominated by Parties for the roster of experts and other experts invited by the Committee to participate in the Committee’s work
Note by the Secretariat
Paragraph 10 of the terms of reference for the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee, adopted by the Conference of the Parties of the Stockholm Convention in the annex to decision SC-1/7, provides for the establishment of a roster of experts who are not members of the Committee that the Committee may invite to support it in its work. Parties may designate experts for inclusion in the roster, noting their areas of expertise or specific substance knowledge. Paragraph 12 provides that, if no expert on the roster has specific expertise on a certain issue, the Committee may invite other experts to participate in the work of the Committee in accordance with the criteria established by the Committee.
The Committee by its decision POPRC-1/2 agreed on a process for inviting experts as set out in the annex to that decision. The Conference of the Parties by its decision SC-2/8 approved the criteria established by the Committee to be taken into consideration when selecting experts from the roster as set out in paragraph 1 of decision POPRC-1/2.
In addition to the letter sent on 3 June 2005, the Secretariat sent another letter on 12 November 2008 to Parties inviting them to nominate individuals for inclusion in the roster of experts. Nominations of experts on toxicology, ecotoxicology, persistence and environmental monitoring were encouraged in accordance with the needs expressed by the Committee at its fourth meeting. The Secretariat updated the roster of experts based on the nominations submitted by Parties.
The updated list of experts is contained in the annex to the present note. The newly nominated experts are marked with an asterisk (*) in front of their names.
