Elected as Member for 10th and 13th Lok Sabha in 1991 and 1999 from Visakhapatnam Constitu-

ency and represented as Member for Standing Committee on Finance, Consultative Committee on

Civil Aviation, Member, Public Accounts Committee, etc.,

Political Activity:

Active Member of Telugu Desam Party since 1984 and held positions as Vice-President. He was

incharge for Guntur and Prakasam Districts in 1998, two politically volatile districts to prepare for

1999 general elections and almost all candidates won at that time in these districts.

In 1980 started Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), presently GITAM Univer-

sity is among Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru Campuses.

Acted as Chairman for Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) from 1987 to 1989.

Dr. Murthi has been involved in various charitable activities through MPM Trust established in the

year 1984 and helped several needy youngsters to pursue their education.

Dr. Murthi also involved in starting several Junior and Degree Colleges in promotion of education.

Some of them are:

1) Women’s Govt., Junior College at Amalapuram.

2) Dr B.R.Ambedkar Junior College at Vadlapudi Rehabilitation Colony, Visakhapatnam.

3) Sri Seetarama Degree College at Poosapatirega, Viziangaram District and

4) MPM Trust Junior College at Moolapolam Village, Ainavilli Mandal, E.G.Dist.,

Research:

Dr. Murthi did research on the topic ‘Jawahar Rojgar Yojana’ and obtained Ph.D., from Andhra

University in Economics. He also translated a book into Telugu ‘Public Distribution of essential

commodities in A.P.,

Dr. Murthi to his credit participated in several debates in the Parliament during his tenure in Lok

Sabha and also won the appreciation both from Treasury and opposition benches for his brilliance in

debates.

Dr. Murthi was felicitated by Shri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of

Andhra Pradesh for his good work in Parliament.
