Promoting your Christmas Jumper Day
TOP TIPS FOR MAKING THE NEWS

  • Finding the right contact to email is the best place to start – this will usually be the features editor or news editor.

  • Put your press release in the body of your email (not as an attachment) – a template for you to use is below.

  • Include your contact details and a good photo (with caption information) of your jumpers and event preparations. A strong image will make your story stand out.

  • Tailor the template press release to make it specific to your day. Add a quote about who you are, what you’re planning and what inspired you. A silly or attention-grabbing headline with local detail can help.

  • Follow up with a call to the person you sent it to. Ask if they received the release and if there’s anything else they’d like to know.

[Who you are, e.g. colleagues/friends/club] at [where you are, e.g. company/town]

set to take their silliness very seriously for Christmas Jumper Day!

On [date, e.g. Friday 16 December] [colleagues/friends/club] at [location/company] will be putting on their warmest, wackiest and most wonderful festive woollies to raise money for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

Silliness is set to sweep the nation as millions of people in schools, offices and homes up and down the country donate £2 to sport a festive sweater for the day. From technicolour festive knits festooned with reindeer antlers to balancing baubles, the best bit is that all this silliness has a serious purpose.
All money raised through this wacky woolly-wearing could help give a child living in a refugee camp clothes to keep them warm through winter, help buy nutritious food for their entire family, or set up a safe space to give children the chance to be children again. It’s a very silly way to solve some very serious problems!

Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day is fun, easy to organise and everyone can be part of it. To find out more and sign up, visit www.christmasjumperday.org.

ENDS.
