REVIEW OF THE POSTGRADUATE THESIS PREPARED FOR 

THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE 

TEACHING 

 

ABSTRACT 

Today,  the  developments  in  information  communication 

technologies (ICT) have not only affected my daily life, but also led to the 

development of new tools used in teaching environments and accordingly 

new methods. From this perspective, the integration of  technology into 

foreign language teaching should not be perceived as an event, but as a 

process. Therefore, it is important to make predictions about the process 

by  observing  the  changes  of  the  past  and  present  situation  of  this 

integration process as well as future trends and observing the changes 

after  a  certain  time  interval.  The  main  purpose  of  this  research  is  to 

examine postgraduate theses prepared in Turkey on the use of technology 

in  foreign  language  teaching.  The  research  was  conducted  using  a 

document  review  technique,  which  is  one  of  the  qualitative  research 

methods. The study's study is composed of 79 graduate theses prepared 

for the use of technology in foreign language teaching between 2010-2016 

and scanned on the database of ve Yükseköğretim Kurulu (YÖK) Ulusal 

Tez Merkezi. In the study of the determined postgraduate theses, "Social 

Sciences Research Assessment Criteria Form" adapted from Kırcaali-İftar 

(2005), Gay and Airasian (2000) was used. According to the findings of 

the research, it was determined that the related undergraduate master 

theses are intensive and Information Communication Technologies (ICT) 

is the most frequently used technology type in foreign language teaching. 

In  addition,  it  has  been  determined  that  the  most  trending  topic  is 

"training foreign language teachers". It is thought that the research will 

provide effective and efficient guidance for future research on technology 

use in foreign language teaching.
