A native of Watford, England, Smith owns 32 caps for international play and was a starter for England’s team in the 1999 World Cup qualifying matches. She helped England qualify for the 2001 European Championships, which was the country’s first appearance in a major championship in five years. Prior to coming to the United States, Smith played for the famed Arsenal Club Team.

Smith has coached numerous young players over the years in individual and group sessions. She also spent one season as an assistant coach at Seton Hall after graduating from the University in 2000.

2003 (Philadelphia Charge): Scored her first goal of the year against New York (5/3) in her third game since missing most of 2002 season with knee injury. Comeback was short-lived as she left the match in the second half with an injury to the same knee (right). Had surgery on May 9 to repair a torn meniscus and bone lesion and will be sidelined at least six weeks. Chosen team captain for second year.

2002 (Philadelphia Charge): Was in the midst of an MVP-type season, with a league-leading 4 goals and 3 assists when she tore the ACL in her right knee against San Jose on June 1… It was the first serious injury of her career and she underwent surgery on June 20 … Still finished third on the team in point and second in goals, despite missing the final 14 games… Scored the Charge's first goal of the year in the 2-0 season-opening win at Atlanta… Was named the WUSA Player of the Week on May 13 as she posted a goal and assist in the 3-1 victory over Washington… Converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give the Charge a 2-1 win over New York… Named the Player of the Month for May for her 3-goal, two-assist effort during the month… Set a Charge record by scoring at least one point in seven consecutive games dating back to the 2001 season and playoffs… Served as team captain until sidelined by injury.

2001 (Philadelphia Charge): Named to the Global 11 All-Star Team… Made 12 starts in 13 matches and tallied 4 goals and 3 assists, despite battling recurring ankle injury… Scored the first goal of her professional career in the season-opening win over San Diego… Had a goal in the 3-2 playoff loss to Atlanta… Was the league's most fouled player.

2000: Drafted second overall by the Philadelphia Charge, becoming the first English player in the WUSA.

International: Member of the English National Team since the age of 16… Owns 32 caps in her career, making 29 starts and scoring nine goals… Called up for winter training with the National Team in January, 2003, marking her first competitive action since knee surgery… Had two goals in England's 3-0 win over Portugal in a Women's World Cup Qualifier (2/24/02)… Scored a goal in the 4-1 win over Holland in 2003 WWC Qualifier, but then missed action due to injury… Made starts for England in 0-0 tie with Holland in WWC qualifier (11/4/01) and in 3-1 loss to Germany (9/27/01)… Netted one goal and assisted on another in England's 2-1 win over the Ukraine in a 2001 European Cup Championship qualifying match (10/30/01)… Was named the Player of the Game, despite going scoreless, as England defeated the Ukraine, 2-0, to advance to the European Cup Championships (11/28/01), marking the team's first appearance in a major championship in five years… Started for her national team in WWC qualifying matches against Germany, Norway and Holland in the spring/summer of 1998… Made her ESPN debut as England faced the U.S. in the Nike Victory Tour in 1997.

College Career (Seton Hall University): One of the premier collegiate players and most prolific scorers in the nation… Three-time BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the year, becoming only the fifth athlete in any sport in conference history to earn the top award three times… NCAA's career scoring leader in points per game (3.41) and goals per game (1.49)… Totalled 76 goals and 174 points in just 51 career matches, to become Seton Hall's all-time leader… Established Seton Hall record with 62 points (27 goals, 8 assists) in 1999… Had 21 multiple-goal games and 10 matches with three or more goals… Received Seton Hall's highest honor as her uniform number (6) was retired. Became the first non-basketball playing athlete and just the third woman to earn the distinction at the University.

1999 (Seton Hall): Set Seton Hall record with 62 points (27 goals, 8 assists) in 19 matches… NCAA's leading scorer for second year in a row with 1.42 goals per game and 3.26 points… Tallied a school-record 6 goals in win over La Salle, a performance which ranked second in NCAA history for goals and points in a single match… Scored two goals in a span of 18 seconds at West Virginia… All-America and All-Region selection… BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year for third time… Finished third in the voting for the Hermann Trophy and runner-up for the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year.

1998 (Seton Hall): NCAA Scoring Champion with her per game averages of 1.41 goals and 3.29 points as she recorded 24 goals and 8 assists (56 points)... Had five-game winning goals… Converted her first penalty kick of the season to tie the score in upset of 2nd-ranked Notre Dame, while also adding an assist…
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season… All-Region 1st Team selection… Seton Hall's Female Athlete of the Year for second time.

1997 (Seton Hall): Totalled 25 goals and 6 assists (56 points) in first collegiate season… Shattered the BIG EAST records with 18 goals and 41 points in conference matches… Named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, becoming the first athlete in any sport in BIG EAST history to win both awards in the same year… Ranked second in the nation in goals… Had seven-game winning goals and put together a nine-match goal scoring streak… Scored four unassisted goals in win over Pittsburgh…. Converted 5-of-6 penalty kicks… Missed first four matches of the season while awaiting eligibility clearance.

Club: Played for the renowned Arsenal club team… Had two goals and an assist to lead Arsenal to a 3-0 win over Liverpool in the 1996 Premier League Championship… Played for the New Jersey Lady Stallions of the W-1 League in 1999 and 2000… Was named to the 1999 W-1 All-Star Team after recording 10 goals and three assists in just nine games… Competed in the adidas Summer League in 1999, earning the "Golden Boot" award as the league's MVP.
