  Tornado/Severe Weather WATCH:
  
  • 
    Conditions are favorable for tornado or severe weather.
    
  • 
    Make staff aware, prepare, but take no action.
    
• 
  Tornado WARNING:
  
  • 
    Tornado has been sighted.
    
  • 
    Take shelter immediately.
    
• 
  Severe Weather WARNING:
  
  • 
    Severe weather has been reported by weather spotter or tracked on radar.
    
  • 
    Take shelter immediately.
    

Signals:

• 
  An announcement on the school P.A. system, or…
  
• 
  A backup signal will be three short blasts on a portable air horn, and bull horn announcements in the hallways by Principal.
  

Staff

• 
  Proceed to designated shelter areas
  
• 
  Close all doors, windows & blinds
  
• 
  Position sitting – away from door swings, facing wall away from storm direction, head down with hands behind head
  
• 
  Maintain quiet
  
• 
  Verify class count
  
• 
  Wait for instructions/all clear
  

DO NOT RE-ENTER BUILDING
Principal’s Office

• 
  On stormy days monitor LOCAL weather radio
  
• 
  Advise staff to prepare, review shelter locations
  
• 
  Have signaling devices ready
  
• 
  Post weather spotter during tornado watch (if sighted – call 9-1-1)
  
• 
  Keep staff advised
  
• 
  Signal staff as needed
  
• 
  If damage - call 9-1-1
  
• 
  Admin. meet emergency responders
  
• 
  Activate Crisis Team
  
• 
  Notify emergency responders of anyone missing
  
• 
  Or signal all clear when advised
