History of the emergence of the English language.
The history of the English language began in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and in the southeast of present-day Scotland, but later under the control of the Kingdom of Northumbria. It was in this region that English emerged. From the 18th century onwards, through Britain, the British Empire, and the United States from the mid-20th century onwards, it became widespread throughout the world and became the leading language of international communication in many regions. Historically, English has come from a combination of closely related dialects. Old English was brought to the east coast of Great Britain by German (Anglo-Saxon) settlers. Most of the words in English are based on roots derived from Latin, as Latin was used in some form by the Christian Church. In the 8th and 9th centuries, the language was influenced by the ancient Norse language due to Viking invasions
