International Symposium on Turkish-Islamic Culture in Sinop From Past to Present / 5-7 October 2018 174 A General Perspective to the Social Life of Sinop in the Ottoman Period Abstract Sinop, which has been a host to so many civilizations and flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, have began to decline in religious, commercial and cultural life in the Byzantine period. After being conquered by the Seljuks/Seljukians, Sinop came under the domination of Turk-İslam culture. İf we consider the period of the principality/ period of beyliks in other sence, to be a transitional period, it has made its real spurt/breakthrough in the Ottoman period. Travelers such as İbn Batuda and Evliya Çelebi who visited Sinop during the Turkish-İslamic sovereignty introduced it as a city attracting attention with its natural beauties, its buildings and its mosques. After entering into the Turkish-İslamic dominance, Sinop became an established city and due to its strangic location it baceme scene for some big events. İn this context, the sinop Raid is the first example to come to mind. İn our paper we will focus on the general lines of Sinop’s social life from the time when Ottoman conquest happened, to the 19th century. İn this context the fields whichare interbedded with social life such as; population, social structure, religious groups, ne- ighborhoods and etc. Will be examimined. Seljuks, Pervaneoğullari and Candaroğullari periods will not be mentioned. Keywords: Sinop, Ottoman, Social life. Uluslararası Geçmişten Günümüze Sinop’ta Türk-İslam Kültürü Sempozyumu / 5-7 Ekim 2018 175 İSİM SOSYOLOJİSİ BAĞLAMINDA SİNOP CAMİ İSİMLERİNİN ANALİZİ Özcan GÜNGÖR * Bekir ŞAHİN ** Öz İsimler kültürel aidiyeti, toplumsal var oluşu ve millet muhayyilesini simgeleyen temel kodlar olarak önem taşırlar. İsimlerin toplumların tarihsel bağlam içinde anlam bulduğu çevre, kültür, özlem ve acıların forma dönüşmüş şekilde tarihe kaydedildiği bilinmektedir. Dilin değişen doğası içinde sembolleşen isimlerin bir anlamda yaşanılan tarihi değişimi de gösterdiği görülmektedir. Aynı ortak geçmiş ve kurulması hayal edilen geleceğin izlerini isimler üzerinden sürmek müm- kündür. Diğer bir ifadeyle isimler, tarihsel ve kültürel özgüllüğü simgeleyen kolektif bir hafızadan süzülüp gelmeleri nedeniyle, toplumsal dünyaya ve kimliğe referans olurlar. Bu çerçevede sosyo- tarihsel ve kültürel angajman, nesnel bakımdan eylemlerde isimlerin belirlenmesine, öznel ba- kımdan da isimlerin şahsiyeti etkilemesine zemin hazırlar. Bu bağlamda ülkemizde camilere ve- rilen isimler de kültürel kodların izini sürmede bize yardımcı olacak cinstendir. Osmanlı döne- minden başlamak üzere yaşanan büyük siyasi, askeri ve dini kişiliklerin isimlerinin camilere ve- rilmesi geleneği Cumhuriyet dönemiyle birlikte farklılaşmalar göstermiştir. Cumhuriyet dönemi kültür politikaları ve dine karşı alınan mesafeli tavır, halkın da cami isimlerine verdikleri adlarda kendini göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda bu değişimin izlerini Sinop camileri özelinde camilere ve- rilen isimler özelinden anlamak çalışmanın problemini oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın amacı ise ca- milere verilen isimlerin a) siyasi-politik durumların etkisi, b) toplumun gelecek özleminin etkisi, c) devlet büyüklerinin dini hayata ilişkin bakışının etkisi çerçevesinde değerlendirilecektir. Ça- lışma nitel bir desenle anlamaya dönük olarak tarihsel dökümantasyon ve karşılaştırarak algıla- maya dönük bir teknikle işlenmeye çalışılacaktır. It is known that the names are recorded in the form of the environment, culture, longing and suffering that society has found meaning in the historical context. It is seen that the names symbolized in the changing nature of the language show the historical change experienced in a sense. It is possible to follow the traces of the same common past and establish- ment to the imagined future through names. In other words, names refer to the social world and identity as they flow from a collective memory symbolizing historical and cultural freedom. So- cio-historical and cultural engagement in this framework sets the ground for the identification of names in objective actions and the influence of the personalities of names in subjective care. In this context, the names given to the mosques in our country will help us to trace the cultural codes. The tradition of giving names of the great political, military and religious figures living in the beginning of the Ottoman period has been differentiated with the Republican era. The cultural policies of the Republican era and the distant attitude towards the dyne show themselves in the names given to the names of the mosques. In this context, it is the problem of trying to understand the traces of this change specially in the names given to the gods in Sinop mosques. The aim of the study is to evaluate the names given to the mosques a) the effect of political-political situations b) the influence of society's future longing, c) the influence of the state view of religions. The work will be tried to be processed with a qualitative pattern in a way that is oriented towards historical documentation and comparative perception.
