PENCIL METHOD

 

Hold the utensil like you would a pencil.  It should be 

resting between the tips of your pointer finger and 

middle finger with your thumb on top to hold it in 

place.  The end of the utensil should be resting  on 

the webbing of your hand.

 

CONTINENTAL / EUROPEAN STYLE

Cut your food

Do not switch

both utensils while 

taking a bite with 

the tines of the fork

Use your knife as a 

tool to position food on your fork

Pass condiments, serving trays, and salt and pepper to the right.  The only exception is if the person
