How to download Skype:
For Windows
Go to - http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/
Click the “ ” button
The Skype download should start within seconds. If it doesn’t, you can start download again at: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype. You need Windows 2000, XP or Vista to run Skype.
A window will open asking what you want to do with a file called SkypeSetup.exe. Click ‘Save File’.
When the download is done, click on the SkypeSetup.exe file from the Mozilla Downloads window (or Internet Explorer) to open the Skype Setup application.
(Alternatively, you could open it directly from the location you saved it which is typically your desktop.)
The Skype Setup Wizard will appear and guide you through the rest of the installation.
Launch Skype
After the installation has finished, you can open Skype at any time by clicking the icon on your desktop or in your system tray.
To start Skype I f it's your first time opening Skype:
Open Skype on your computer.
That means double-clicking this icon on your desktop or choosing it from the Windows > Start menu. Having trouble? Launch it from here. This will open a start-up screen.
Click Don't have a Skype Name?
This opens a Create account window.
Type in your name, then create a Skype username (called a Skype Name) and a password.
- Pick ones you can remember so you can sign in next time.
- Follow the directions from there and click Sign in.
If you've opened Skype before:
Open Skype from your desktop or Windows > Start menu. In the start-up screen, click in the box under Skype Name and type it in. Then do the same for your password.
(If you forget your password, click the Forgot your password? link and follow the directions from there.)
This will sign you in to Skype, ready for you to use.
For Mac
Go to - http://www.skype.com/download/skype/macosx/
Click the “” button
The Skype download should start within seconds. If it doesn’t, you can start download again at: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-macosx.dmg. You need Mac OS X 10.3 or higher to run Skype.
Quit Skype
If you have an earlier version of Skype running, you need to close it.
Follow the Setup Wizard
Open your web browser’s Downloads window and double-click on the blue Skype icon.
If a warning dialog opens, click Continue.
Drag the Skype icon to your Applications folder
If you have an older version of Skype installed, you’ll be asked whether you’d like to replace it with the new one. Click Replace.
After you’ve ejected the Skype disk image, you can run Skype.
Starting Skype for the first time
When you start Skype for the first time, you will be asked to read and accept our End User License Agreement. Click “Accept” only after you have read and understood these terms.
Next, you will be asked to choose a Skype Name and password. Your Skype Name is like a phone number or email address. This is the name that people will use to call you on Skype.
The Skype Name and password fields are required in order to use Skype and your Skype Name must be at least 6 characters in length. If the name is already in use you will be asked to try another name. An email address is not mandatory, however it is strongly recommended that you provide one as this is the only way to retrieve lost passwords.
You can optionally set Skype to remember your Skype Name and Password on this computer. This feature is convenient but should only be used in circumstances where you control access to the computer. Never use this option on a public computer or one for which you cannot monitor use. You can change this setting at any time from the Skype program by going to the “Skype” menu and selecting “Preferences”.
