Hairdresser

Turkish transcript:
A: Merhaba. İsmim Yalçın Ceylan.
B: Ne iş yapıyorsunuz?
A: Bayan kuaförüyüm. 1967 doğumluyum. İlkokul çağlarında bu mesleğe başladım.
B: Çıraklık?
A: Çıraklık tabi. Çekirdekten yetiştim. Severek yağtığım bir iş.
B: Evet
A: Tabi Çırak, yardımcı, kalfa derken ustalık ama...
A: En zor kısmı.
A: Türkiye’deki kuaför. Yani bayanların %70’i bilinçsizce yapılan bir iş.

B: Peki bize ailenizden biraz bahsedebilir misiniz?
A: Ben memur çocuğuyum. Üç kardeşiz. En küçükleri benim.
B: Evli misiniz?
A: Evliyim.

A: Peki teşekkür ederim
B: Rica ederim ben teşekkür ederim. Sağolasınız.

English translation:
A: Hello. My name is Yalçın Ceylan.
B: What do you do?
A: I am a hairdresser. I was born in 1967. I started this job during my primary school years.
B: An apprenticeship?
A: An apprenticeship for sure. I rose from the ranks. I do it with pleasure.
B: Yes.
A: It is a fun job but it takes a lot of patience.
B: After the apprenticeship did you become a foreman?
A: Of course, apprenticeship, assistant, foreman and then master but . . .
B: Are these levels determined by an exam?
A: Yes. But the best thing is not having the diploma; more important, one should improve himself. No one can be perfect in this job because fashion changes rapidly. You have to keep up with fashion, to produce and be polite to women.
B: That must be the most difficult part.
A: The most difficult part. It is even difficult to be with one woman at home, but here there are lots of women and you should never dismiss their needs. It is a nice job.
B: Do you think Turkish women are more sensitive about their hair? For example, do they get their hair dyed more often?
A: 70% of women do this without thinking. They just do whatever is fashionable. They never care if it looks good or not; it is usually with the spouse’s input. They either look at models or look at magazines, see a hairstyle, and come and tell us that they want that hairstyle and never care whether it would look good on them or not. The training for this system is pretty bad because we are way behind technically.
B: Yes.
A: We are very behind Europe in terms of supplies but the good thing is that our hairdressers are creative artists. We don’t have the European opportunities but we make our own opportunities.
B: Could you tell us about your family?
A: I am the child of a civil servant. There are three children in the family. I am the youngest.
B: Are you married?
A: I am married. I have two children. One is eleven years old; the other one is five years old.
B: Do they want to be hairdressers?
A: It is their own choice but what I think is instead of directing them they should find their own direction in time. As I said, one has to like his job in order to be successful. If they don’t like it they will never be successful.
B: Okay. Thank you very much.
A: You’re welcome. I thank you.
