Welcome to Delphinus Class - Year One

Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to Delphinus Class! We hope you have had a fun and relaxing, summer break, and your children are keen to return to school, eager to see their friends and settle into their new class. It has been a pleasure to see how well the children have interacted with each other, the teaching staff and new classroom environment. We have spent the last few days getting to know each other and settling in.

Classroom Routines Children have been collected from the hall at 9.a.m. From next week, we ask that children line up, next to the fence, outside Cygnus at the bottom of the stairs and you say goodbye in the playground. If the weather is bad, then please come into the hall. Please ensure children have their PACT folder, water bottles, packed lunches etc. I am available for a chat at the end of the day or if you wish to arrange a meeting, I am available, after school on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be returned to class on the following Tuesday. This is usually a short activity for your child, to do with your support. Please give them as much help as they need and try to keep it fun.

We have timetabled PE (Physical Education) for Thursday morning. Dance sessions will take place on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a PE kit (shorts/leggings and T-shirt) in a labelled bag. This should remain on your child’s peg and be taken home for washing occasionally.

Please can you label your children’s, clothes? The children often get hot in class and take off fleeces, sweatshirts etc. Which, despite our best efforts sometimes get mislaid. It would be really helpful and save time if we could identify the garments quickly. We do remind children to put their clothing on their pegs. It would be great if you could reinforce this message. If your child wears shoes with laces, please teach them how to lace up their shoes.

We will be visiting the library, every other Thursday afternoon. We are planning a few trips this term and will give you more information when we have confirmed the dates.

Children should bring their PACT folder/ bag to school each day. I will choose books for children to share with an adult at home. I will change their reading books once every week and write a comment. You are very welcome to change your child’s reading book too. You can change their book in the morning or at the end of the school day. We encourage you to read with your child each night. A comment in their yellow Reading Record would be helpful.

VOLUNTEERS We welcome parents to come into class to listen to children read, which is hugely beneficial for the children, especially those pupils who do not have the opportunity to read regularly at home. Also we encourage parents to accompany the class on school trips or to the library if they can.

Encouraging children to be an independent person in their school environment is vitally important and strengthens the overall confidence of the child. Please do come into the classroom if you need to speak to staff or to change reading books. We will send out a class timetable and details of the curriculum next week.

The classroom staff working with your child in Delphinus are:
Beverley Singleton Class Teacher

Gemma Miller Teaching Assistant

Ayshe Dervish Volunteer Teaching Assistant
We look forward to getting to know your child and working with you in order to support your child’s learning, development and school experience. Please do feel free to come and talk to us at any time, should you have any queries.

Warm regards,

Beverley Singleton

Delphinus Class Teacher
