As a courtesy to our graduates and guests…

Brookhaven College celebrates the academic success of our graduates and wants 

to ensure that today’s commencement ceremony is a fitting conclusion to this 

chapter of their education. We request that everyone create a pleasant experience 

for all by attentively considering the rights and feelings of others.

To maintain the traditionally formal tone of the ceremony and ensure others’ 

comfort, disruptive vocal or artificial noisemaking, banners and raucous 

behavior is prohibited. We ask that the audience and all participants ensure their 

cellphones are on silent, and that you be respectful of others space and viewing 

when taking photos and video. Violators may be escorted from the ceremony by 

a college official.

Smoking and the use of tobacco products is forbidden. 

Although they are most welcome at our commencement, children must not be 

left unattended.

Family and guests are asked to remain seated for the entire ceremony. There will 

be ample time for pictures and conversation afterward.

A designated photography area is provided at Loos Field House.

Brookhaven College celebra el éxito académico de nuestros graduados y quiere 

asegurar que la ceremonia de graduación de hoy sea un adecuado final en 

esta etapa de su educación. Solicitamos que cada persona contribuya a crear 

una experiencia agradable para todos observando atentamente los derechos y 

sentimientos de las otras personas. 

Para mantener el tono formal y tradicional de la ceremonia y para asegurar la 

comodidad de los demás, se prohíbe hacer ruidos con la voz o hacer sonidos 

artificiales, tener un comportamiento partidista y una conducta ruidosa. 

Pedimos a la audiencia y a todos los participantes que apaguen sus celulares, 

y que sean respetuosos del espacio y visión de las otras personas al momento 

de tomar fotos y grabar videos. Las personas que infrinjan estas disposiciones 

pueden ser retiradas de la ceremonia por un funcionario del college.

Está prohibido fumar y usar productos de tabaco. 

Aunque los niños son muy bienvenidos a nuestra ceremonia de graduación, 

ellos deben estar siempre bajo supervisión.

Se pide a los familiares e invitados permanecer sentados durante toda la 

ceremonia. Habrá bastante tiempo para tomar fotografías y conversar después 

de la ceremonia.

Se ha designado un área para fotografías en Loos Field House.

Mission of Brookhaven College

A

t Brookhaven College, a public, open-door, two-year 



institution dedicated to student success, we provide     

quality educational programs by offering a broad 

range of programs, learning opportunities and experiences. We 

prepare our students to value the individuals and organizations 

within our diverse community and to face the challenges as 

responsible and productive members of society. We achieve our 

mission through our goals and strategic directions.

Purpose and goals of Texas public community colleges are as set 

forth in Education Code 130.003, as follows:

The purpose of each public community college shall be to 

provide:

  1. Technical programs up to two years in length leading to 

associate degrees or certificates;

  2. Vocational programs leading directly to employment in 

semi-skilled and skilled occupations;

  3. Freshman and sophomore courses in arts and sciences;

  4. Continuing adult education programs for occupational or 

cultural upgrading;

  5. Compensatory education programs designed to fulfill the 

commitment of an admissions policy allowing the enrollment 

of disadvantaged students;

  6. A continuing program of counseling and guidance 

designed to assist students in achieving their individual 

educational goals;

  7. Workforce development programs designed to meet local 

and statewide needs;

  8. Adult literacy and other basic skills programs for adults; 

and

  9. Such other purposes as may be prescribed by the Texas 

Higher Education Coordinating Board or local governing 

boards in the best interest of postsecondary education in 

Texas.
