THE EARTH (GENESIS 1:1-19): SEPTEMBER 6–12
SEPTEMBER 6 STORY SUNDAY:
Read the following story together as a family.
In the beginning, there was nothing, but God was there. God
spoke, “Let there be light,” and light shined in the darkness.

dark Night. God saw that they were good. God said, “Let
there be sky,” and a beautiful sky appeared. God saw that
the sky was good. God said, “Let there be water and dry
land.” God saw that the seas and the earth were good. God
said, “Let there be plants and trees.” God saw that the
plants and trees were good. God said, “Let there be a sun
and a moon, and stars.” God placed the sun in the day sky,
and the moon and stars in the night sky. God saw that the
sun, the moon, and the stars were good.

IN GOD’S IMAGE (GENESIS 1:26–2:4): SEPTEMBER 20–26
SEPTEMBER 20 STORY SUNDAY:
Read the following story together as a family.
God had created light, day, night, sky, earth, seas, plant life
of every kind, sea creatures, birds of the air, and all of the
land animals, but God was not finished with Creation. God
spoke again, “Let’s make humanity in our image. They will
care for the fish, the birds, the animals, and all of the earth.”
God created the humans and blessed them, saying, “Take
care of each other, and take care of all the earth.” God saw
everything that had been made and it was supremely good.
Everything had been created, so God rested. God blessed
this day of rest and made it holy.
PRAY: Dear God, thank you for creating us in your image.
Help us to care for it the way you care for us. Amen.
SEPTEMBER 21 MOVEMENT MONDAY:
Simon Says

• Keep playing until everyone has been it, or until everyone
is tired.
SAY: God created humans in the image of God. What do you
think that means? (Let everyone answer.)

ASK: What existed in the very beginning? (nothing but God)
God spoke, and everything was created. What did God create
in this week’s story? (humanity) What did God say about all
that was created? (It’s supremely good!) When God created
humanity, God blessed them and asked them to care for the
earth. How can we better care for the earth? (Let everyone
answer.) We are all asked to care for all of the earth.

with some of the same things—hearts, lungs, brains—but
we are not exactly the same. How would the world be if each
of us was exactly the same? Even the tiniest details show us
that we are each created specially. What do you think that
means about God?
PRAY: Dear God, thank you for all people! Help us to
understand each other’s differences. Amen.

ADAM AND EVE (GENESIS 2:10–3:24): SEPTEMBER 27–OCTOBER 3
SEPTEMBER 27 STORY SUNDAY:
Read the following story together as a family.
God placed Adam in the garden of Eden to take care of it.
God told Adam to eat from any of the trees, except the
tree of good and evil because if he ate from it, he would
die. God didn’t want Adam to be alone, so God created all
of the animals. God brought each animal to Adam to name,
but none of the animals was the perfect friend for Adam.
So God put Adam into a deep sleep and took one of Adam’s
ribs. From the rib, God created a woman. Adam was glad
that the woman, Eve, was like him. The smartest animal
God made was the snake. The snake tempted Eve with the
fruit from the forbidden tree. The snake told Eve that she
could eat from the tree and she would not die. She took a
bite and gave it to Adam to take a bite. They were ashamed
and hid from each other and from God. God was unhappy
they had disobeyed. God told Adam and Eve, “Because you
have made these choices, you will have to leave the garden.”
Even though they had disobeyed God, God continued to
take care of Adam and Eve.
PRAY: Dear God, sometimes we mess up. Thank you for
loving us anyway. Amen.
SEPTEMBER 28 MOVEMENT MONDAY:
Act It Out
• Choose someone to be each of the characters in the
Bible story. You will need an Adam, Eve, snake, and God.
Invite everyone to act out the story.
ASK: Adam and Eve did not make good choices. What could
they have done differently? (Let everyone answer.)
PRAY: Creator, making choices can be hard. Help us to think
them through and make the best ones we can. Amen.
SEPTEMBER 29 CREATE TOGETHER
TUESDAY: Good Choices
Supplies: markers, craft sticks, jar
SAY: When we are bored or have lots of time, it’s easier to
make bad choices. Together we are going to think of goodchoice
activities we can do when we have extra time or are
bored.
• Encourage everyone to think about what activities
can be done when your family has extra time. Some
suggestions are: reading, cleaning your room, helping a
sibling, drawing a picture, and playing a card game. What
else can you think of?
• Invite everyone to write his or her ideas onto craft sticks.
• Encourage everyone to place the craft sticks into the jar
and place the jar where everyone can get to it.
PRAY: God of the universe, help us make good choices! Amen.
SEPTEMBER 30 WONDER WEDNESDAY
ASK: The snake tempted Adam and Eve with fruit that God
told them not to eat. Plus, this fruit was very special; it
would make them see clearly like God. But when they ate
it, they were ashamed of what they saw and hid from God.
Have you ever felt ashamed? What did you do? We each have
choices to make—some big, some small, some easy, and
some hard. The great thing is that God will always be with
each of us through it.
PRAY: Wonderful God, be with us as we make choices. Help
us know what is best. Amen.
