Agenda Items

1

Welcome

Welcome to Suzanne, attending her first meeting.

2

Action Plan

The action plan was discussed; it is progressing as planned. The patient survey was discussed, and it was agreed to discuss this in more depth ay July’s meeting, and to also discuss a recruitment campaign for new at September’s meeting.

3

Practice Update

Martin updated the meeting on practice developments / on-going issues:

  1. Reminder that Dr Shepherd is retiring at end of May; posters are up in the waiting room inviting patients to an open morning farewell on Saturday 3rd June between 10 am and 11 am.

  1. Dr Sarah Gray is joining the practice as of 01st June as a 6 session per week salaried GP. This means that there now will be a female GP working on a Friday.

  1. The new diabetic service was discussed. It was the pre-diabetes Living Well Taking Control programme that generated discussion: some members of patient group had been invited to the initial assessment but had heard nothing since. The LWTC programme is being run form the surgery on a Friday afternoon. ACTION: Martin to raise this issue with the LWTC session leader on Friday.

4

National Association for Patient Participation

  • Martin led the group through the latest bulletin, adding some more detail and/or explanation to items listed in it.

  • With the electronic version Martin sends out, people can simply click on any of the links in the bulletin to open up items it refers to. For those group members who may not have access to the internet, it there is anything you’d like Martin to send you, please let him know.

5

AOB

  • Suzanne raised an issue about the local pharmacy. Frequently, not all items are in stock whenever she presents a prescription. Whilst the local pharmacy is independent of the surgery, Martin said that by using the on-line medication request service via the practice website, and signing up for the electronic prescribing service (EPS), then it means that patient can order repeat medication without having to come into the surgery, and the request will get electronically signed off by a GP, and electronically forwarded to the pharmacy. If a patient does this at least 2 or 3 days before the medication is due, this way the pharmacy can see what items are coming ‘in advance’ and ensure it has the items in prior to the patient coming to collect the prescription. Patients just need to contact Reception to sign up for both on-line access and EPS.

  • Una has received a number of letters from opticians offering eye tests at home. Martin said he believed these were just ‘cold call’ letters.

Martin talked about the forthcoming CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) Patient Congress event, which is on Tuesday 20th June, 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm, at the Cornerstones Centre in Chester-Le-Street, [Cornerstones, Chester-le-Street Methodist Church, North Burns, Chester-le-Street, DH3 3TF].

Amongst the issues they are hoping to discuss are:

  • The proposed Extended GP access scheme (supposed to be starting August / September 2017) and

  • Patient engagement within practices

The patient congress events are open public events that are held twice a year. They have attracted between 60-100 people to each event depending on what is being discussed. Included in the attendees you will also usually find representatives from some of the larger voluntary / community sector organisations too.

If you want to attend, you can either let me know ASAP, or contact anyone else is looking to register an interest and a place at the event they can do so by contacting Daniel Blagdon, the CCG Engagement Lead in any the following ways;

  • Phone   0191 389 8617

  • E-mail    d.blagdon@nhs.net

  • Online   nd_congress_may_2017.eventbrite.co.uk

Daniel is keen to hear your questions, thoughts and comments: please contact him by Friday 19th May with these. He will look at incorporating these into the plans for the table discussions.
