ECASA project dissemination (Dec 2004-Oct 2005)


Participant #8 (University of Crete)

  • December 2004: Presentation of Aquaculture-environment interactions (with reference to ECASA approach) to the undergraduate students of the Technical University of Crete, Chania in the framework of the course “Environmental Impact Assessment”

  • January 2005: Participation in the “Sustainable Aquaculture” workshop organised by IPTS Seville on January 17th and 18th 2005. Lecture title: «Karakassis I. Environmental impacts of aquaculture; ecosystem impacts; Environmental impact assessment tools». We have provided information on ECASA objectives and expected results.

  • March 2005: Presentation of ECASA at the section “anthropogenic effects on the marine environment” in the framework of the course “Marine Biology” for undergraduate students of the University of Crete.

  • April 2005 (11th-15th): 20 h lectures on Aquaculture-environment interactions at the University of Algarve in the Framework of the European MSc on Aquaculture and Fisheries. Part of the time was devoted to the presentation of ECASA structure and preliminary results.

  • May 2005 (24th-25th): Participation in the ad hoc group meeting in Zaragoza, Spain, for the preparation of the seminar on “Mediterranean Aquaculture and Environmental Management” that will be held in Murcia, Spain (May 2006). It was agreed to include in the programme of the seminar lectures devoted to the expected deliverables of ECASA.

  • June 2005 (19th-24th): Lecture delivered at the ASLO meeting in Santiago de Compostela on “Ecosystem Approach to Environmental Assessment of Mariculture: new findings and prospects”, presenting inter alia ECASA project, participants and objectives.

  • July 2005 (2nd-3rd): Presentation of WP3 structure to the annual postgraduate meeting of Biology Department Univ. of Crete.

  • August 2005 (31st): presentation of ECASA objectives at the meeting of the panel of experts on feed additives of the European Food Safety Authority held in Brussels.

  • October 2005 (3rd-14th): Lectures to 1st year postgraduate students of the Biology Department, University of Crete: Presentation of ECASA approach to the issue aquaculture-environment interactions.

  • October 2005 (26th): interview to the greek newspaper “Kathimerini” regarding the environemntal impacts of aquaculture at the west coast of Greece. ECASA was mentioned as a potential source of models that should be used for environmental impact assessment.

  • Brief information on ECASA, providing also the web-site address has been sent to EEA officer on marine environment, LAMANS SA, NAYS LTD, as well as to ca 30 colleagues from various research institutes in the world who contacted UoC on issues relevant to aquaculture-environment interactions.
