TRANSFER SERVICE (if booked)

If you choose the language course, you will be met upon arrival at the airport in Brindisi or at the train station in Lecce and escorted to your accommodation in Lecce. For the internship, this service could be offered by the hotel for free. You would be met at the nearest airport or train station and would be brought to the hotel by an employee.

ACCOMMODATION DURING THE LANGUAGE COURSE (if booked)
Throughout the programme you will be accommodated in shared apartments/houses in Lecce on a self-catering basis. You will be required to share the accommodation with other international students or the owner of the property. You must arrive at the accommodation on Saturday.
The flats are fully equipped; furthermore the participant will be given towels, sheets and blankets so he/she does not have to bring anything. We cannot guarantee that a public telephone will be available for your use; we therefore recommend that you take a mobile phone with you. You will be responsible for cleaning your room, which should be left in the same condition as it was found on arrival. Laundry facilities will be available in the accommodation in most cases, you have the right to use the washing machine once a week, if not you may have to use the launderette in the city. You must ask permission from your landlord/landlady before receiving any visitors.
Smoking in the accommodation is not allowed. Should you cause any damage to the property, it will be your own responsibility to pay for costs incurred. The sending partner and PUROMUNDO do not accept liability for any damage caused by participants.
Whilst much care is taken when placing students in accommodation abroad, it should be borne in mind that living standards are not always as high as in your country. Accommodation can be basic, but is perfectly suitable providing you, yourself, keep it clean and tidy. Participants must follow the regulations regarding the use of all accommodation scrupulously. Disciplinary action will be taken should there be any break of these regulations. A deposit of 90 € will be asked on arrival and given back at the departure.
In the Kitchen.-

1) If you are staying with a family, either on a half-board or full-board basis, you will not be able to use the kitchen nor the fridge.

2) If you are staying in an accommodation on a self-catering basis: you have the right to use a part of the fridge where you can store your food. Clean kitchen devices that you use to cook (blender, toaster, oven, ...). When you finish eating, clean the things that you have dirtied. All Kitchen cleaning products will be have to be bought by you. If you break something (fridge, washing machine…) you must pay it.
In your Bedroom.- You can decorate it as you like, being careful not to damage the furniture and the walls. Keep your bedroom tidy.
In the Bathroom- Check that the bathroom is clean and tidy when you finish using it. All the items for your personal hygiene will have to be bought by you.
In General.- Always ask if you need anything that is not yours. Find out how the heater, gas bottle, etc...work. The telephone is only for incoming phone calls. If you want to invite friends, already with the owner’s knowledge, do it preferably in the afternoon or take them to your room. Guests cannot stay over night. Parties or any other activities that cause noise are not allowed. The participants have to respect the decoration of the house and may not bring any furniture to the same. Furthermore it is not allowed to nail anything into the walls. Neither the possession of drugs, weapons nor pornographically material is allowed. For any questions, ask the owner of the house. Water and electricity are very expensive; use them carefully. You have the right to get a key of the house. Animals are not allowed without the owner’s permission.
If the participant is to be blamed for being asked to leave by the landlord/lady, he/she has no right to a new accommodation provided by PUROMUNDO. A change of accommodation is only possible in exceptional cases and with the approval of PUROMUNDO. Differences in quality (e.g. distance from the centre of Lecce or for equipment like telephone, washing machine, TV, etc) are no reason for complaint.

LANGUAGE COURSE (if booked)

The Language Course, organised by Apulia Domus, consists of 50 minute-lessons tuition. Group courses begin on the first Monday of every month. There are different levels, nevertheless it is inevitable that there will be different levels of competence within the group and that weaker members will have to be prepared to work harder in order to improve their language skills. Conversely, students with a higher level of Italian may feel frustrated. These factors need to be realised and accepted. In any case it will mostly be possible to change to a lower or higher level if you don’t fee comfortable in the one placed.

The group course will be Monday to Friday, 4 lessons per day and will be held at the following address: Via Adriatica, 12 – Lecce. In some periods, you could be the only student or with just another person. In that case, individual courses will be held, reducing the total hours per week, but increasing the service. The Italian courses are only a small part of the activities done by the school in Lecce, so maybe you will be the only one studying Italian but, at the same time, there will be a lot of Italian people studying English, or computer, or other languages. This means that you will never be alone.

We would like to remind you that both attendance and punctuality are compulsory, absence can lead to the participant being dropped out of the program.

It must be stressed that as much time and effort as possible should be put into learning the language. Remember, the most Italian you understand, the more rewarding your placement will be!!

(Massimo Sponsiello – Futura Srl. Apulia – Lecce, School Director)

ACCOMMODATION & BOARD DURING THE VOLUNTARY PRACTICAL TRAINING

Throughout the programme you will be accommodated in a staff room of the hotel so you should be aware of the fact that the accommodation can be basic. You may be required to share the accommodation with other staff members. Please take your own towels, but do not take any blankets or duvets, as these will be provided.

Should you cause any damage to the property, it will be your own responsibility to pay for costs incurred. The sending partner, the hotel and PUROMUNDO do not accept liability for any damage caused by participants.
We cannot guarantee that a public telephone will be available for your use; we therefore recommend that you take a mobile phone with you. Italian SIM cards for your mobile of an Italian company (TIM, Vodaphone, Wind) are available at cheap prices. This way you will have an Italian mobile number and your calls within Italy are much cheaper.
During your stay you will have full board allowance. If not, a different agreement between the parties will be agreed.

VOLUNTARY INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT

In Italy you must make an effort to speak and understand Italian as English is not normally spoken by the average Italian. A very few number of restaurants and hotels require a food handler Permit. This licence will cost around 20 € in Italy. During winter time, some internships can be boring because of the low season. If a participant prefers to come to Italy during the low season, it is very important to be highly motivated and do not care about the fact that there is not much to do. Not all the placements are in the city centres, so you may be required to get organized by yourself in your free time.

The trainee must respect professional and confidential information and undertakes not to divulge information about the company to a third party. Your tasks will depend on your past experience, skills and linguistic ability. Nevertheless you should be flexible. You should have in mind that the hotel does not know you personally but only from your CV and other documents sent. So sometimes it could be that it will not be possible to do the training in the department mentioned in the voucher. For example at reception a high level of Italian is requested so if you don’t have it you might be requested to help in the restaurant or kitchen. Sometimes the hotels needs your special support so extra hours have to be done, overall in high season this is very normal. You will be rewarded with extra days off or a bonus. Don’t expect to have a vacation period as this is not foreseen. You should follow the recommendations and rules of the host company so that you reach the principal aim of this voluntary practical training without causing disruptions for the organisation of the host company.
A smile, friendliness and a good appearance are a matter of course. Always wear clean clothes and the appropriate. Piercings have to be taken out, visible tattoos are not allowed. Long hair has to be worn in a ponytail, boys with long hair can be asked to get their hair cut. It could be that you will have to wear a uniform which in most cases will be provided by the hotel. It is important to be realistic about what can be achieved, particularly during the first few weeks as you are using a foreign language and experiencing new internship practices. Therefore, an open mind and a willing disposition are paramount in order for the training to be successful for both the host company and the participant.
Those with limited Italian cannot expect to be placed in positions of responsibility, until they have shown themselves willing and motivated to practice and improve their Italian. The trainee must respect the rules and regulations of the company where she/he is placed, particularly as regards working hours and safety rules.

In case of non respect of these rules, the company may put an end to the training. We would especially ask you to remember that whilst the training, you are expected to behave as an ambassador for your country. Most important: Placements for future participants depend on your behaviour! Of course, you are not allowed to consume drugs during your stay. In most cases it is not allowed to drink alcohol.

A change of the voluntary practical training will not be possible except caused by force majeure.

Instructions to follow in case of disagreement with the voluntary practical training:

  1. The participant should talk with the responsible of the host company

  2. If the disagreement continues you should call your tutor at PUROMUNDO.

  3. It is very important to send the claim by e-mail to PUROMUNDO

  4. Your tutor at PUROMUNDO will be working in order to find a solution.

  5. Your tutor at PUROMUNDO will inform your sending organisation about all incidents happening with the participant

Please bear in mind that a change of placement will only be considered in case of justified reasons. For example, if you do not like your boss or some of your colleagues, or if you do not like food, or if you do not like the area where the hotel is, or if you do not feel confident anymore with the job you have chosen, these reasons will not be considered as serious ones. You must understand that you need time to get used to a new country and a new experience. Once that you consider that, you will start to enjoy every moment of the program. By removing yourself from the placement before a new one has been found, you will loose his/her accommodation, and will be expected to support you until a new placement with accommodation can be found.

EVALUATIONS

During your stay in the hotel we will call you and send you evaluation forms in order to see if everything is okay. At the end of the training we will send you a final evaluation form which we kindly ask you to fill out. In this form we ask you general questions about the whole experience.

The evaluations are an obligatory part of the programme.

Of course, if you have any doubts or problems you can call us and we help you to solve the problem at 0039-3395979981 (PUROMUNDO – Department Director)

ATTENDANCE

It is obligatory to attend the voluntary internship placement during the specified hours. We would like to remind you that both attendance and punctuality are compulsory, absence can lead to being dropped out of the program. Should illness occur, you must present medical certificate to validate absence.

Illness must always be reported to PUROMUNDO as well as to your responsible of the voluntary practical training. It is up to the hotel director to decide to pay you or not the days in which you have been sick. Should you be required to change your voluntary internship placement, you are still obliged to attend that previous voluntary internship placement until another has been arranged. Failure to do so may result in the stoppage of allowances or, in extreme cases, expulsion from the programme.

CERTIFICATES

All participants receive a certificate about the voluntary practical training (the participant has to request this on his/her own before the end of the voluntary practical training). It is utterly compulsory, in order to receive the above-mentioned certificate, to fill in the evaluations sent by PUROMUNDO and to attend the daily voluntary internship placement. If you cannot assist, you have to inform us immediately!!

INSURANCE

You have to be covered by the European Social Security System from your home country (bring blue European Security card which will allow you to be reimbursed for your medical expenses) for the following risks: Accidents – Death – Permanent Disability – Sanitary Assistance. If not, you will have to have a private insurance. You must continue to be registered under the social security system of their home country.

PUROMUNDO will also cover you with a Civil Responsibility Insurance (if previously arranged for). If you already have your own one, it must be translated into Italian saying “Polizza di Responsabilità civile verso terzi”.

PARTICIPANTS ARE EXPECTED TO

a. Be mature enough to face the difficulties of adapting to life in a foreign country.

b. Have an open mind towards new experiences and situations.

c. Take an interest in discovering new ways of life in different surroundings.

d. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adaptability to different practices.

e. Be flexible about the placement and location.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

It is of extreme importance that you behave in a sensible and restrained manner, showing respect for the host country's customs and beliefs and follow the rules. Anti-social behaviour of any description, including alcohol or drug abuse, will not be tolerated and will result in the removal of the individual from the programme with the loss of any entitlements and commitment fees.

PUROMUNDO also has the power to remove participants from the programme, if they feel such action is justified. In the event of these circumstances occurring, it will be the individual's own responsibility to meet with any extra expense incurred for the return journey to your country. Neither the sending partner, PUROMUNDO nor the hotels are obliged to help with any travel arrangements or costs.

PROGRAMME ABANDONMENT

You will be expected by PUROMUNDO and the hotel, to complete the full duration of the programme. Failure to do so, in the majority of the cases, will be treated as abandonment and the participant will not be entitled to reimbursement of any funds or costs. In addition, PUROMUNDO will be entitled to recover any reasonable costs incurred as a result of such abandonment. No certificates will be given in case of abandonment without justified reasons.

Consideration will be given to the waiver of such conditions in the event of abandonment by the participant due to persistent illness or any similar circumstances, which are considered acceptable by PUROMUNDO. A medical certificate or other suitable evidence must however support such absence. In the event of abandonment for such reasons, the sending organisation and PUROMUNDO will do everything possible to help with the organisational aspects of a return to your country. However, all costs must be met by you.
Should you vacate the programme without obtaining permission from the sending organisation, PUROMUNDO and the hotel, this will be treated as abandonment.
