Human Ingenuity Project

Ingenuity- the quality of being cleverly inventive or resourceful
Unit Question: How have human discoveries changed our view of life?

Area of Interaction: Human Ingenuity
As we study cells and the microscope, we want to focus on that power that is within all of us, the ability to discover and create. You utilize this power to make changes in your life and the lives of others. What ingenuity has been exercised by other humans before you to change your life? In this unit, we are focusing on cells and the microscope. Pick one of the ingenious scientists from the below listing and research about their life and their resourceful discovery that changed the lives of others.


1. Title

Use your ingenuity to create a clever title based on your scientist’s contribution, including the scientists name..



Ex. for Humphry Davy who invented the first light bulb-

Humphry Davy: A Bright Idea”



Ex. for Alexander Graham Bell who invented the telephone- Alexander Graham Bell: Listen to What I Discovered!”

2. Biographical Information: include the following information:

  • Include picture

  • country of origin

  • personal information about his/her life.

*parents, education, family, other contributions.


3. Human Ingenuity: include the following information

  • Why is this discovery important to our lives?

  • Describe the contribution your scientist made to cell theory or the microscope. Use terms that will be understood by non-biologists. You must include

  • at least one picture/drawing that helps to tell the story.

Project: Your product will be a poster-

use the guidelines in the template to the right.


You will be given:

  • a sheet of construction paper to use vertically.

  • time to research your scientist.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER: Your scientist may have made several ingenious discoveries, however we want you to focus only on discoveries related to cells and the microscope. No plagiarism allowed. Write your explanations in terms that people walking our halls and seeing your work will understand. You may find complex terminology in your research that needs to be explained.
You may type, print and paste/tape your work onto the poster and you may draw and use colored markers.
