SCHOOL NEWS

We would like to thank Kelly, Holly’s mom, and Jill, Ellie’s mom for making the wonderful orange play dough for the month of October. This is a lot of fun and a great fine motor skills to build up hand muscles.

Jen, Krystal’s mom donated many books, puzzles, toys and games to our school. Thank you very much, it is very much appreciated.
Thank you also to the parents who were able to volunteer for the helping hands. If you signed up for play dough we will send you a recipe about a week in advance. We are still looking for more play dough makers throughout the year. If you were unable to sign up for anything at this time, we always welcome any help throughout the school year. This could include reading to the class, baking for special events, or field trips, just let us know.
We have almost completed all student evaluations. These fall evaluations are mainly a baseline assessment for the teachers to know what to work on with each individual student. You will receive a copy of the assessment in the coming week and will be given the option for a conference. Please know that if we have any concerns now, or throughout the year we will ask for a conference. We will do a re-check of all students in December to make sure they continue to progress. We will then perform spring evaluations. At this time we will schedule ‘end of the year’ conferences and encourage all parents to participate.

Thursday, October 30th and, Friday, October 31st we will be celebrating Halloween. Students can wear their costumes for a fun filled day of celebrating and learning. We will be doing a fun Halloween project, having a special Halloween snack, and more fun and games. (Please no weapons, guns, or scary costumes). If your child does not want to wear their costume to school please bring it anyway as they often change their minds when they see all their friends dressed up. We will have sign ups for treats in the next few weeks. Please remember we are nut and peanut free, please check the label if you are purchasing item that it’s not manufactured in a facility or made on equipment with nuts or peanuts. Thank you!!

CLASSROOM NEWS

September was very busy with a double theme. Our first theme, “All about us” we learned about how we are all alike and how we are all different. Our second theme, “Our school” we learned about our school and how we each play an important part in our school. During the beginning of the month we played games to get to know each other. We also learned school rules and how to play/expectations for each center. A lot of our learning is hands-on with the idea that each student learns in many different ways and with individual interest. We look for input from each student based on their ability and make sure that they are being challenged in activities throughout the day.

Ask your children what they do and what they are learning in each center. We will try to keep you informed by writing on the white board, but please also know that the lesson plans are posted on the front board. This also explains what is done in the classroom.
There is so much to do this month, we hope we can fit it all in. Flu season is upon us and we want to try and keep everyone happy and healthy. Please remember to talk to your children about washing their hands and coughing into their elbows. We don’t want anyone to miss out on our Spooktacular Month!

Ms. Abramczyk & Mrs. Schultz

September was a whirlwind of fun and learning and was over as quickly as it began! We are now beginning our enrichment classes. They will be woven into our daily curriculum. Each month for ‘Artist of the Month’ we learn about a different artist along with different techniques and painting on different mediums like a famous artist. We create, cook, and eat during our Recipe Day each month. This month we will be making some yummy applesauce! In Music & Movement, we learn important listening skills. Recently, we have experimented with different instruments. Twice a month we have a Science Time activity where we investigate, predict, and sometimes get messy. This month we already observed signs of Fall and we will explore what is inside a pumpkin and learn how they grow. We will measure, estimate, and make predictions. We will tie this all together with our field trip to Ruwet Farm.

Our Cultural Awareness Program begins this month. Each month we will learn about children in other countries. We will talk about how they dress, eat, and a few words in their language. Spanish is spoken daily within circle time as students learn how to say numbers, days of the week, sunny, cloudy, and much more. In Math we have worked on AB patterns and will start working on ABB patterns. We have also worked on counting and recognizing numbers 1-10. In Literacy we have a Fall Word Wall. The children are practicing writing Fall related words on the white board. They really enjoy this!

We work on fine and gross motor skills daily. In the touch table we made and played with pumpkin moon sand and will be doing signs of Fall sorting. Outside we have played croquet and hopscotch which were both lots of fun! Boehm's concepts we are currently working on include 1st, 2nd, 3rd, forward, backward, beginning, and end. We practice these in different activities during circle time and in centers. We have continued with our Handwriting without Tears program. This month's letters include H, T, U, I, C, and O.

Ms. Diane

In September we were eager to get to know one another. Our theme was “all about us”. Circle time is our favorite part of the day. We are eager to learn songs and play games to get to know one another.

Finger plays are popular along with our music and movement activities.
Our two movement CD’s are called ‘zoo review’ and ‘listen and walk’. These CD’s have students listening, following directions and using large muscles to exercise. The CD’s have students being creative by pretending to skate, hurry, tip toe or pretend to walk like certain animals.
We are learning to cooperate, share, and be kind to one another! After circle we break up into centers. Our sensory table is a favorite. We have learned to use measuring tools and experience the touch of many products, ie oatmeal, pasta, and shaving cream. For fine motor practice we are lacing, learning to hold our writing utensils, and learning to use scissors. Aim and scribble worksheets are fun and getting us prepared to write upper case letters. Discussing our families and putting together a family photo gallery has brought positive conversation and happy feelings to all. We spend time discussing our families and getting to know each other. In math centers we are playing concentration games. Graphing is popular which included graphing our favorite forest animals, boys and girls in the class and leaf color. We have also worked on 1-5 number recognition, AB patterns, sorting by colors, and different objects. We are beginning to recognize more shapes by playing a memory shape game. Literacy we focus on author and illustrator, understanding characters and details to the story. We can even predict at times. We are doing simple rhymes, practicing simple sequences and introducing Boehm’s concepts. Rhythm clapping to our special B-I-N-G-O book has been fun, singing and clapping.
Free play is a popular time in our room. We dress up, play with puppets, build huge towers with blocks and make delicious meals in the kitchen area. They are learning great problem solving skills at this time along with how to interact with others and work together. Our new monthly theme for October is weather and seasons. Fall is the number one in our discussion, so much excitement going on in the fall time. We have collected many articles of nature and examined them with our magnify glasses.
