Kung Fu Panda 3 trailer review
The genre for this film is animation and children.

Convention: The trailer for the film shows that it’s clearly meant for children through the use of light-hearted animation and really funny moments.

Denotation: When people see an animated movie, they expect it to be kid friendly and very humorous. One of the clips we see is Po and his father happily reunited and bouncing their bellies against each other while Mr. Ping looks on in disgust. Plus, there’s this funny exchange.

Kai: The Master of Pain, Beast of Vengeance, Maker of Widows?

Zheng: Makes an “I don’t know” noise

Kai: OK, I used to work with Oogway.

Zheng: Oh, Master Oogway!

Kai: SILENCE!

(Zheng lays many eggs in fear)

Connotation: What we learn from this trailer is a small idea of who the characters are, how funny it’s going to be and a few epic fight scenes.

Representation: It represents how funny the film is going to be with the comedic moments.

Mantis: Even Master Chicken’s going in there, and he’s a chicken!

Stereotype: The villain, Kai, is a stereotypical character, since what we know so far about his backstory is that he used to work for Oogway. He is also looking for revenge on someone. There’s also the stereotypical adoptive father in the shape of Mr. Ping. There’s also a few comedic pauses like after Mantis says that Master Chicken, who is a chicken is going into battle!

Context: If you make a film titled “Kung Fu Panda”, then it’s expected to have the main character be a panda who can do Kung Fu.
