Study Guide -- WBTC Chapters 9, 10, 11:

-Adam thinks that Amy got demoted to an Orange for him, to be with him.

-Amy admits that she did it (rebelled and got demoted) for herself.

-Adam calls Juan a ‘Macho Mex’ – which is a racial stereotype.

-Amy continues to stand up for herself to Adam, speaking her mind and Adam keeps asking her what’s wrong since he’s not used to seeing this side of Amy.

-Adam apologizes to Amy and she’s able to forgive, but not forget.

-The Oranges gather at Adam’s home to talk about the game – Juan is uncomfortable being in a rich, upper class homeDana & Troy act paranoid, trying to turn everyone on Amy, saying maybe she’s a spy.

-Adam doesn’t take Amy seriously when she expects him to type her paper, continuing to be Sexist.

-Amy even calls him ‘sweet thing’ –treating him the way he always treats her.

-The Lower colors agree to plan a rally/a protest to bring everyone together – They decide to make 4-color armbands for all students to wear, not just Color Game players.

-Juan is self-conscious/nervous about offering up his home for the next meeting, to make the armbands because he’s worried about what the real upper class kids will think about his home.

-Hideo asks Amy to check in on Sue after school, since she hadn’t been feeling well.

-G-4 Brian demands to see Amy’s journal in the rain and won’t let her leave until she shows it.

-Carol uses her new status as a Blue and reminds Amy she must sit behind her Superiors, which causes Amy to start seething, but she moves to the back of the class anyway.

-The Color Game students bond, talking about struggling not just because of the color of your skin but also how much money you make, the home you live in, your neighborhood community, etc…

-Amy calls Mrs. Tarcher to share that she has to cancel her lesson with Bettina since Sue is sick.

-Mrs. Tarcher offers no kind words, but instead just shares her frustration for not being told earlier.

-Secret to being an Orange – anonymity (act anonymous) be unknown, walk with your head down.

-Sue shares with Amy after school that she’s worried about losing the baby, as she’s been bleeding.

-Sue says that the baby is necessary for love and acceptance from Mama and Papa.

-Papa says to Sue: “We do not want anything to happen to your baby, our grandchild. Or to you.”

-The Blues and the Dark Greens easily finished Otero’s test, but Amy & the other lower colors found it hard & impossible – It felt like it was rigged, made to be easier/or harder, to show that poor people don’t test well.

-Sue loses the babyAmy screams at Papa, saying that he’s not being fair to Sue and he needs to show some emotion for her loss!
-Mama shows Amy the baby clothes & Bonsai tree that her & Papa planned to give to Hideo and Sue.

-Sue and Hideo fight about her going back to teach.


-Papa steps in, “You must take care of yourself…For all of us…who care.” Papa shows some affection!
-Papa gives Hideo the Bonsai Tree, saying that he will have a son one day and Hideo will teach his son how to care for the tree  A very important part of their Japanese Heritage.

-Amy feels that she comes from a rich culture (strong traditions and love).
