William W. Pinsky, MD
Dr. Pinsky will join ECFMG as chief executive on July 1st
PHILADELPHIA, UNITED STATES―ECFMG announced today that it has selected William W. Pinsky, MD, to be its next President & Chief Executive Officer. In this role, Dr. Pinsky also will serve as Board Chair of ECFMG’s Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER®). Dr. Pinsky will join ECFMG on July 1, 2016, succeeding Emmanuel G. Cassimatis, MD, who will retire after holding both positions since 2009.

Dr. Pinsky currently is Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of Ochsner Health System (OHS), a nonprofit, academic health system that serves greater New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. He also serves as Executive Vice President for Ochsner International and Professor and Head at the Ochsner Clinical School, a U.S. partner of The University of Queensland School of Medicine in Australia. Before joining OHS in 1999, Dr. Pinsky held a number of senior academic and executive roles at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, including Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Chief of Pediatric Cardiology, and Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatrics; and at Detroit Medical Center, where his roles included Senior Vice President, Chief Quality Officer, Chief Executive of the Sinai Health System, and Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Managed Care. He has held numerous other faculty and hospital appointments.

Among his many service roles with national organizations, he served in recent years on the Boards of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, and the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers. He also is the founder of Racing for Kids, a 501(c)(3) foundation that uses professional motorsports to promote the health care needs of children and children's hospitals. Since its launch in 1989, Racing for Kids has taken professional drivers to more than 650 hospitals to visit with more than 27,000 patients and has distributed $6.3 million to the hospitals. Dr. Pinsky’s most recent honors include the Leadership Award for the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences, presented by The University of Queensland in 2015; The Founders Award, presented by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2013; and the Weinberg Award, presented by the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers in 2010. Dr. Pinsky is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Chest Physicians. A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Pinsky trained in Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine.

Our search has yielded an outstanding candidate,” said ECFMG Board Chair Ram R. Krishna, MD. “ECFMG’s next chief executive is an accomplished academic physician with the vision, strategic skill, and international perspective needed to continue to expand ECFMG’s valuable services among international communities of medical educators, regulators, practitioners, and patients.”
