Målet med emnet er å gi en grunnleggende oversikt over norrøn litteratur, basert på lesning av tekster i oversettelse. Pensum må leses i gode oversettelser med fullstendig tekst. Dersom det er tvil om oversettelsenes kvalitet eller tekstgrunnlag, skal faglærer forespørres. Mangelfulle oversettelser vil ikke godkjennes.
