Terms and Conditions of Service

The terms and conditions applicable to this post are those of all NHS Scotland Employees.


1. Superannuation
You have the option to join the NHS Superannuation Scheme, to participate in the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme or to take out a Personal Pension.
Employees contributions to the NHS Scheme range from to 5.2% to 14.7% of salary (depending on rate of Pensionable Pay) and the employers’ contribution equates to 13.5% of salary. Employees in the NHS Scheme are “Contracted-out” of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme and pay a lower rate of National Insurance contributions. Employees who choose to participate in the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme pay the higher rate of National Insurance contribution. A Stakeholder Pension is also available.

4. Annual Leave
The annual leave entitlement in a full year commencing 1st April to 31st March is 27 days, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service and 33 days after 10 years’ service. There are 8 Statutory and Public Holidays in each leave year. (Pro rata where applicable)

2. JOB PURPOSE
This job exists to provide a multi-skilled worker who supports clinical and non-clinical practices on the unit in order to enhance patient focused care.




4. SCOPE & RANGE
The job has no budgetary responsibilities other than an awareness of the overall requirements of resource consciousness. There are no line responsibilities but the post holder will be required to mentor and supervise new staff.




5. MAIN DUTIES


Patient Care

Assist RN with the delivery of patient care including hygiene, preventative skin care and incontinence care.
Supports the RN during the peri-operative period. Performs circulating duties, gathers and checks necessary equipment, assists with patient positioning and assists with patient care in theatre as well as the pre and post- operative area.
General Duties
Assists nursing staff with general duties within the Operating Theatre/PACU. Carried out cleaning duties not covered by housekeeping.
Assists clinical staff with setting up case carts and requirements for forthcoming lists both surgical and anaesthetics.
Work with registered practitioners to ensure best practice and standards are adhered to.
Co-ordinate the delivery and distribution of linen for the area.
Co-ordinate the ordering and delivery of stores for the area reporting any concerns to SCN. Actively stock up as required.
Undertake environmental audits as instructed.
Follow policy for cleaning and hand hygiene
Portering
Assists in the transportation of patients to and from the Operating Theatre/Preop and Recovery.
Act as messenger and porter for supplies, specimens, records and equipment or any other required items pertaining to patient care.
Clerical
Undertake and assist with appropriately delegated basic administrative and telephone duties as requested by line manager.
Procedures
Able to initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency procedures as appropriate.
Quality
Contributes to the overall Golden Jubilee philosophy of continuous process improvement.

Involved in improving and monitoring customer satisfaction.


Makes suggestions on how quality can be improved.

  1. SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT

The post holder is responsible for the sourcing of sophisticated medical equipment for theatre lists


Participates in equipment training as directed by line manager
Use of manual handling equipment.
Ability to enter data into opera accurately
Ability to access e-mail communication system through outlook express.
Ability to access intranet.
The post holder will have access to patients notes therefore must comply with the Data Protection Act, Caldicott Guidelines and local policies regarding confidentiality and access to medical records.
Use of patient administration system.
