PRESS RELEASE: 21st September 2016

PARALYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST TO INSPIRE RUNNERS AT THE START LINE OF THE IKANO BANK ROBIN HOOD MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON

Hot off the back of his Paralympic gold and silver medal success, Richard Whitehead will be jetting back to the UK to make his first public appearance since Rio by starting the runners and wheelchair racers for the 2016 Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon & Marathon on Sunday 25th September.

The 200m sprinter, looking to emulate the success of London 2012, powered home to victory in Rio in a time of 23.39, proving that at the age of 40, you’re never too old for glory. He then went on to take an extraordinary silver medal in the 100m final. The thousands of runners taking on the iconic 13.1 or 26.2-mile route in this year’s Ikano Bank Robin Hood Marathon and Half Marathon will no doubt take inspiration from Richard’s efforts as they look to tackle the new and improved route.

Judith Manson, Race Director, comments: “Richard has been a fantastic supporter of this event for many years now and we can’t wait to welcome him back once again. His gold medal success will add an extra buzz for the runners who will be looking to take inspiration from his phenomenal achievement.”
