  1. Communication Skills: Ability to use good communication skills in oral and written presentations and/or assignment, correctly use the editorial style of the American Psychological Association Publication Manual

All of the graduating majors will earn a “C” or higher grade on written examinations in ENC 1101 and 1102. This assessment will be based upon relevant rubric.

In response to a survey question, 80% of the faculty will respond that a majority of their senior advisees has passed the CLAST, which includes an essay component.

  1. Critical Thinking Skills: Graduating majors will demonstrate critical thinking in analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing behavioral scientific data and articles. This assessment will be based upon relevant rubric.

All of the graduating majors will earn “C” or a higher grade on statistical examinations, and projects requiring application of statistics to psychological problems and issues.

All of the Psychology Department faculty who require written summaries of the Imhotep Student Research Conference presentations will respond to a survey question that the research summaries of their graduating advisees reflect satisfactory/good understanding of the research paper presentations.

  1. Professional and Career Success: Ability to participate in the Annual Imhotep Student Research Conference at FAMU and, participate in the McNair Research Program, the North Florida Association of Black Psychologists, Attend the annual conference of ABPsi and other conference in psychology, Membership in Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, Participate in the Psychology Club

All of the graduating majors will earn a “C” or higher grade in the introduction/foundation course in psychology where psychology as a profession is adequately treated.

60% of the graduating majors will respond in the Exit Interview that they plan to attend graduate school in psychology.

  1. Specific Content knowledge – Graduating seniors will demonstrate knowledge of psychological terminology, concepts and theories and their application.

70% of the graduating seniors will earn a “C” or a higher grade on a major research project in Experimental Psychology. The project will be graded for content, organization and use of a computer statistical program. Relevant rubric will be used.

80% of the mentors of junior and senior majors participating in the Ronald E. McNair Research Program will respond in a telephone interview that the students’ performance was comparable to that of juniors and seniors from other institutions participating in the National Research Conference of Ronald E. McNair Scholars.

  1. Diversity/Cultural Perspectives: Graduating majors will demonstrate an in-depth awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity and perspectives in psychology.

90% of the graduating seniors will earn a “C” or better grade in a major paper requiring application of cultural concepts and terminology to psychological problems/issues.

60% of supervisors of senior majors engaged in either course required or volunteer community service will provide an evaluation of satisfactory or better based on quality of students’ interpersonal interactions and performance of tasks.
