Chapter 18 – Religion and Cults

Paper (20 pts.) and Poster or PowerPoint (15 pts.) + one other supplemental resource for presentation (15 pts. is presentation value)

Criteria: Should include history, leaders, places of worship, places where the religion thrives, cultural aspects, interesting facts, etc.

Paper should be 2 pages typed (double spaced). About six paragraphs probably. Have a works cited page also.
For the poster/PowerPoint – neatness, attractiveness, effort count

Possible subjects (include but not limited to):

Roman Catholic

Any Protestant Religion (Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.)

Islam (could focus on Sunni or Shi’ite)

Jehovah’s Witness

Amish/ Mennonites

Branch Davidians (cult, 1993)

People’s Temple (Jim Jones cult)

Heaven’s Gate (UFO cult, 1997)

Aum Shinrikyo (80’s and 90’s Japanese cult)

Scientology (?)
