ST. JOHN’S CALLS NEW PASTOR

On May 31, Pastor Patricia Pittsnogle preached her trial sermon at both the 8:00 and 10:15 services. Following each service a vote to call was taken.

At the conclusion of the 10:15 the votes were counted and a letter of call given to Pastor Pittsnogle. Pastor Pittsnogle has accepted the call for here at St. John’s effective July 15, 2015.

COUNCIL SUMMER PICNIC

Council will hold their summer picnic on July 8 at

6:00 p.m. at the Shikellamy Marina. If there is inclement weather or too hot, we will meet in Fellowship Hall. The regular monthly meeting will follow the meal.

Dear Members of St. John’s,

Council has been struggling with a difficult decision regarding our beautiful sanctuary. Our goal is to make our church accessible and friendly to handicapped worshippers. We had already authorized the removal of the back pew on the street side. This has proven to be beneficial to social and church activities in this area. Council is discussing removing other pews.

Options discussed –

A. No further changes, pews remain as is.

B. Removing an entire pew on both sides. If an entire pew is removed in the

middle, it allows a walkway in the middle of the sanctuary and easier access to

sit in a wider space.

C. Removing a half pew on each side to create a place where handicapped people

can sit in their wheelchairs and their families may sit next to them in the

remaining half pew. This would create a cross shape within the pews.

Please feel free to email me at lhallden@hotmail.com with any opinion you may have about this pew arrangement. You may also put your written opinion in my mailbox in the hallway by the church office. All comments and opinions must be received by July 1st. I will take all your comments to council and they will review them. Please be sure to sign your name or your comment will not be accepted. Thank you for your cooperation.

Loye Hallden

Secretary, Church Council

HOW TO PRAY

Pray where you are. God is present everywhere and ready to listen.

Pray, when possible, in a quiet place where you can be alone. It is good to fix your mind deliberately on God, apart from confusing distractions.

Pray to God simply and naturally, as to a friend. Tell him what is on your mind. Get help from the prayers of others.

Pray, remembering the good things God has done for you. Give thanks for all your blessings.

Pray for God’s forgiveness for the unworthy things you may have done. He is near to a humble and contrite heart.

Pray especially for those things that will make your life more Christlike.

Pray for others, remembering the help they need for the situations they confront.

Pray for the world in its need, and for God to guide you toward ways you can help.

Pray that God’s will be done in you. His purposes are deeper and wiser than our own.

Pray, and then allow God to answer your prayer
