DESIGN SECRETS
Thursday 19th of September 6pm – 9pm
Each studio will not only present the finished product but will also exhibit an
insight in to their studio’s work creating their own mini studio in store. Parallel
to this we will host a Design Panel Discussion on ‘Design Secrets’ (7pm - 8pm)
to give members of the public a chance to gain an insight in to the studio’s
unique process of taking an idea from a quick sketch on a page to a realised
product. Who better to lead the discussion than Hanna Nova Beatrice author
of Behind the Scenes - Stories From the Design Industry. The book offers a
wealth of information on the design scene, Hanna comments -
“Behind the Scenes gives you an inside look at today’s design industry – the
challenges it faces, the commercial undercurrents that shape and define it and
a glimpse of those in power. The book includes subjects such as design media
and PR and the relationship between the two, payment methods in the design
industry, the escalating speed of the new and the effectit has on the products,
as well as the importance of pricing. Behind the Scenes is a book debating the
issues around design that rarely get spoken about.”
‘Behind the Scenes - Stories From the Design Industry’ will be available to
purchase at Skandium.

CATE&NELSON for STUDIO SKANDIUM
Cate&Nelson is a Scandinavian design studio based in London creating industrial design
across furniture, product and interior with international clients. The design duo consists
of the Swedish designer Cate Högdahl and Spanish Nelson Ruiz-Acal, educated at the
Europeo di Design in Madrid with a base in London and representations both in Spain
and Sweden. Their designs are distinguished by sustainability and a continental approach.
Their inspiration is drawn from an on going design dialogue, and thorough observation of
daily situations and needs that arise from the products and space we utilise. The products
need to offer something over and above expectations, meeting the needs of today.
Respectfully, with humility and a glint in the eye, they follow the entire design process. They
take great joy in being a part of the journey from the first idea to the final product going on
the market and finding a home.
Tea Pot
“The Skandium teapot is characterised by its soft cylinder form and a comfortable handle,
designed to give great balance both visually and physically, making it easy to pour from.
The teapot keeps the heat, and holds tea for all friends around the table. The teapot is
designed with a contemporary Scandinavian approach and defined by traditional materials,
ease of use and personality.”

EMMA LONSDALE for STUDIO SKANDIUM
Emma Lonsdale lives and works from her home studio in Cheshire. Having established
herself as an illustrator / designer / artist producing vibrant paintings Emma now prides
herself on producing individual and colourful characters which are sure to make you smile.
Using her original paintings as a main starting point Emma manipulates repeats and plays
around with pattern. Each design produced is painted by hand before being printed onto
cloth using both, state of the art technology as well as traditional printing methods. This
allows every brush stoke and hand drawn line to be captured sympathetically. Her unique
style and quirky patterns add a humorous twist to any interior.
Emma enjoys the process of taking an idea and making it real and tangible always insuring
the end product is of the highest quality. Commitment and passion are what drive Emma
in everyday in my life. Emma believes the world would be a dull place without the colour of
optimism.
SUNDAY STROLL FABRIC
“The dog walking series first originated from becoming a dog owner. I have often thought
about the comparison and likeness between a dog and its owner. Walking the dog inspired
me to create dog walking characters and capture their relationship and sometimes
humorous similarities. I painted and hand drew the characters and enjoyed making them
come to life on the page. The fabric organically developed and the characters interacted
with one another to form a repeat which eventually became a conversational pattern that I
truly love!”

STIG LINDBERG for STUDIO SKANDIUM
Stig Linderg is one of Sweden’s most iconic designers. Lindberg was renowned for his work
with china, enamel and textile, his iconic creations are representative of the playful design
of the 1950’s. Lindberg also established himself as a profound illustrator.
Lindberg’s illustrations are still loved by many and it is with great excitement that Studio
Skandium will present a new range of Skandium designed mugs incorporating Lindbergs
characters. The range of 4 mugs will be brought to life with the fantastic drawings from
children’s book Daniel Doppsko.
Skandium will also host an interactive illustration competition to encourage visitors to get
creative and draw up their own charming characters. Our favourite design will win a set of
the Stig Lindberg mugs.
SKY CABINET by STUDIO SKANDIUM
Studio Skandium developed the Sky cabinet series with the intention of adding a more so-
phisticated cabinet to our collection. The aim was something uncomplicated and timeless
that works in any space and mixes with any style, whilst maintaining integrity and character.
We used a thin, angled frame around the body to emphasize the quality craftsmanship. The
slim frame also adds a touch of elegance. Essentially all cabinets by necessity are boxes
but the Sky cabinet series has a lightness to it that makes them less obtrusive in its space.
There are four different cabinet sizes in the Sky series. Sky One is a slightly higher cabinet
with five drawers, utilising a taller space better than a four draw option. Sky Two is a four-
drawer unit and Sky Three is a three-drawer unit, both are ideal to be lined up in various
compositions along a wall. Sky Four is a two-drawer bedside unit. The cabinets aren’t as
deep as our Bello cabinets, which make’s them particularly useful in smaller spaces.
The Sky cabinet series are available in the same four colours as our Bello series so both
Bello and Sky can be used in the same interior. Developed by the Skandium team and
hand-made in London, England.
