Triangular trading is a three way trading system in which three main areas trade their goods.

Renaissance

Europe was very advanced and went through a period called the Renaissance. This period lasted 250 years.

During the Renaissance, people were enjoying things like art work, science, and reading.

Europe was trading with Asia and Africa. Trading was difficult, but the compass and astrolabe easier and allowed for more accurate maps.

Amerigo Vespucci

Born in Italy in 1454.

In 1497, Vespucci set sail and reached mainland South America. He realized Columbus did not reach India, but a new continent. The continent was named America after him.

Christopher Columbus

An Italian man who thought he could find a quicker way to Asia by sailing west.

The King and Queen of Spain paid Columbus to find this route.

Columbus left Spain with three ships: Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. He landed in islands south of Florida in 1492, but the thought he was in India.

Columbus opened the door to future explorations in the Americas.

Slavery

Slavery developed from the Columbian Exchange. Spanish and Portuguese people began developing sugar cane plantations and needed workers. The plantation owners used slaves to do their work.

Leif Ericsson, Christopher Columbus, and Amerigo Vespucci can be considered the first explorers to discover the Americas.
