WHAT IS AUDIO DESCRIPTION?

Audio Description involves the accessibility of the visual images of theatre, television, movies, and other art forms for people who are blind, have low vision, or who are otherwise visually impaired.  It is a narration service (provided at no additional charge to the patron) that attempts to describe what the sighted person takes for granted -- those images that a person who is blind or visually impaired formerly could only experience through the whispered asides from a sighted companion.

At this concert a trained audio describer will provide a live, objective description of the visual elements of performance during pauses in the music. She uses a headset with a microphone. The narration is transmitted to audience members who are wearing an earpiece, with the earpiece attached to a pocket-sized radio receiver.

A touch tour prior to the concert will enable you to fully appreciate and visualise the stage setting, instruments and their placement on stage in relation to each other.
